"Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 is celebrating 127 years in Tiffin. Exalted Ruler Joe Steinmetz, who joined the lodge seven years ago, is helping plan the event with other members. Why celebrate 127 years? "We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said. Friday, dinner and live entertainment will take place for members and guests. Events Saturday are open to the public at 106 E. Perry St. Indoor and outdoor activities are to continue all day Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Disabled American Veterans. At 8 a.m., registration opens for a 5K run or 1K walk. An opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the race steps off at 10 a.m., following a route along Riverside Drive and downtown Tiffin. Registration for the 5K and 1K can be done up to the day of the race at $15 per person. The age groups are: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-34; 35-50; and over 50. Forms can be obtained at the Elks, Clover Club, Madison Street Tavern, Varsity Barber Shop, Champs Barber Shop, Pit Stop, Reino's and Ace Hardware. Checks should be made payable to Tiffin Elks Lodge 94. A grill and beverage bar opens at noon to serve all day. A mini-golf challenge and cornhole tournament are to begin at 1 p.m. in the parking lot. The cost is $20 per team for the cornhole tournament. Next, 8-11 p.m. is the "rooty music" of Dragon Wagon, with a mix of bluegrass, rock and folk. Steinmetz said the Elks National Foundation issues grants to qualifying lodges to meet community needs. Steinmetz said the Elks have partnered with organizations such as Winterfest and Tiffin-Seneca Heritage Festival and are looking for grant opportunities for both events this year. The Simi Valley Elks Lodge is getting in gear for for its sixth annual car show from noon to 3 p.m. Sun., Aug. 9 at the Elks Lodge, 1561 Kuehner Drive, Simi Valley. Model A and T cars, muscle cars, Mustangs, Corvettes, Chevys, Fords, motorcycles, side cars and race cars are welcome. All entries will receive a gift bag with wares and information from automotive-related companies. The car show will have no entry fee and no admission charge. Music MX will present '50s music during the show.

The Palm Springs Elks Lodge 1905 will host a fundraising dinner for Guide Dogs of the Desert on Friday. The Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge will host a greet, meet and eat community barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., June 27 at the lodge, 158 Conejo School Road, Thousand Oaks. Members and officers of the patriotic fraternal organization will be available for facility tours and to answer questions and provide a better understanding of the role Elks play in the community. New Egypt Elks to host Touch-A-Truck The New Egypt Elks and the New Egypt United Methodist Church are sponsoring "Touch a Truck" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25 at the New Egypt Elks, Lakewood Road (Route 528), Plumsted. Various modes of transportation will be on display to touch, climb and take pictures alongside. The festivities will include music and activities. Food will be available for purchase. The Fort Morgan Elks Lodge resembled an oceanside environment Saturday during the Dog Days of Summer Sand Volleyball Tournament. Six truckloads of sand were brought in to create two courts for the competition, which also featured a barbecue, music and the Fort Morgan Rotary Club s dunk tank. The 469 roomy seats, original wood floors, large screen, good acoustics and balcony create a vision for Stefan Klosowski. Perhaps the historic Elks Theatre in Middletown could be something like the Allen Theatre in Annville or the Midtown Cinema in Harrisburg, holding plays and musical recitals, said Klosowski, director of the Greater Middletown Economic Development Corp. Maybe some smaller screens could show independent films upstairs? What about an art gallery and an attached coffee shop?

I'm sure the St Augustine lodge appreciates the windfall. $3k a concert is good money.
