"Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 is celebrating 127 years in Tiffin. Exalted Ruler Joe Steinmetz, who joined the lodge seven years ago, is helping plan the event with other members. Why celebrate 127 years? "We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said. Friday, dinner and live entertainment will take place for members and guests. Events Saturday are open to the public at 106 E. Perry St. Indoor and outdoor activities are to continue all day Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Disabled American Veterans. At 8 a.m., registration opens for a 5K run or 1K walk. An opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the race steps off at 10 a.m., following a route along Riverside Drive and downtown Tiffin. Registration for the 5K and 1K can be done up to the day of the race at $15 per person. The age groups are: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-34; 35-50; and over 50. Forms can be obtained at the Elks, Clover Club, Madison Street Tavern, Varsity Barber Shop, Champs Barber Shop, Pit Stop, Reino's and Ace Hardware. Checks should be made payable to Tiffin Elks Lodge 94. A grill and beverage bar opens at noon to serve all day. A mini-golf challenge and cornhole tournament are to begin at 1 p.m. in the parking lot. The cost is $20 per team for the cornhole tournament. Next, 8-11 p.m. is the "rooty music" of Dragon Wagon, with a mix of bluegrass, rock and folk. Steinmetz said the Elks National Foundation issues grants to qualifying lodges to meet community needs. Steinmetz said the Elks have partnered with organizations such as Winterfest and Tiffin-Seneca Heritage Festival and are looking for grant opportunities for both events this year. Wow! SC has added a lodge in Fort Mill a few weeks ago and now one in Pendleton. In recent years, there have been Conway & Little river. Perhaps one more. All this made more possible by the change in the numbers needed (from 100 to 50) to request dispensation to form a lodge! I wonder who had the timerity to propose such a resolution?? PENDLETON - A new Pendleton Elks Lodge will be instituted this weekend. About 75 members will be part of the ceremony set to start at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Greenville Elks Lodge, said Jim Vogel, a spokesman for the Pendleton Lodge. Ceremonies on Saturday include institution of the new lodge, initiation of new members and installation of officers, Vogel said. The Greenville lodge is at 7700 Pelham Road.

On Sep. 24, 1908, the Elks Grand Lodge was petitioned to establish a Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge in Elkins by a group of local individuals hoping to have a club in Elkins. The Grand Lodge granted the charter committee's request on July 15, 1909, as Elkins Lodge No. 1135.

There is no doubt this lodge was improperly closed and the sponsor and DD exceeded their authority. If a Lodge officer did something like this he'd be expelled. Shouldn't the same happen to others..regardless of their stature in the organization? Hopefully, this lodge will weather the grievous injury inflicted upon it. Renters will not cancel, others will move to support the lodge and members will step up to help. Let's hope so anyway.

Fond du Lac Elks Lodge 57, of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, is hosting the 2009 State Spring Convention of the Wisconsin Elks Association. Advertisement The event will run from April 30 to May 3 and hundreds of Elks from lodges throughout the state are expected to attend, according to a press release from the lodge. "We are pleased and proud to host national and state Elks leaders and so many Elk members from around Wisconsin who will be in Fond du Lac for our State Convention, and to show off our beautifully redecorated lodge building," said Brian Lorrigan, current Exalted Ruler of the Fond du Lac Lodge. "We look forward to partnering with our city's many hotels, motels, restaurants and businesses to give a warm welcome from the city and show the many nice things Fond du Lac has to offer."

Local Elks Lodge Gets Applause! The State Library (USL) gave the Dixie Elks Lodge # 1749 in St. George a round of applause for their dedicated volunteer efforts for the blind. The Lodge was honored with a service award celebrating their 10 year partnership with USL. The Lodge has provided space in their building for volunteers to repair damaged cassette players. Thousands of cassette players have been repaired saving the State Library the cost of replacing the machines. "The State Library couldn't do what we do without volunteers," says State Librarian Donna Jones Morris. "Last year volunteers donated 1,245 hours repairing cassette players for the blind. It's estimated that the value of each hour of service is nearly $19 which totals more than $23,000 yearly."

Their organization, Hobart Elks Lodge 1152, formerly was called the Gary Elks Lodge. It was renamed Gary-Hobart Elks Lodge 1152 before the current name was adopted. On Saturday, the lodge celebrated its 100th anniversary.

A full year before the notorious and legendary Elks Lodge Riot, there were indeed completely successful punk rock gigs held at downtown LA's Elk Lodge -- and by successful, I mean no police interruptions. One such set of gigs include the February 24 and 25 benefits for The Masque at the Elks Lodge. Many of the artists who performed are featured in today's photos (none of these pix are from the Elks Lodge show, however).

They will need it.} It is more than likely that they have struggled, they haven't given up, and in my opinion have shown all of us what a determined membership can accomplish. Kudos to former Austin lodge, now The High Road on Dawson.

"ONEIDA - The Oneida Elks Lodge 767 will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of establishing headquarters at 191 Main St. on May 30 from 3-6 p.m. at the lodge. There will be refreshments served and Back to the Country will perform on the porch. "We have one of the nicest lodge facilities in the whole Central New York district," said Don Skinner, Elks trustee. "This building is a very historic part of downtown Oneida. I'd hate to ever see it go.""

EEOC Sues Illinois Elks Lodge For Sexual Harassment The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC") is suing a southwestern Illinois Elks Lodge, alleging three board members sexually harassed three female bartenders. In its lawsuit (Case No. 3:09-cv-00200), filed in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis, Illinois, the EEOC claims that Vicki Vickers, Elizabeth Stemm, and Jackie Davidson (formerly Jackie Atteberry at the time of her employment by defendant) were subjected to unlawful sexual harassment while working at Elks Lodge No. 954 by three members of the Elks' board of trustees on numerous occasions in 2005 and 2006.

The Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge will host an open house in conjunction with a motorcycle show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., Aug. 22 at the lodge, 158 Conejo School Road, Thousand Oaks. The lodge will be open for facility tours. Officers will be available to answer questions about the organization. The weekly Elks charity barbecue will be available at prices starting at $6. The dinners were featured in 805 magazine as one of the best in Ventura County.

Carlisle Elks Lodge #578 held the Initiation Ceremony for 13 new members on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. A warm welcome to the new class! September 15th also marked the annual visit of our District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, Warren Specht, and Grand Esquire Carl Hilton. DDGER Specht encouraged the Lodge and its leadership to continue "the good work" that has been evident within. Thanks to all of the members who attended and made the event a success!

Now why would the leadership of any lodge sell their building without requesting permission from GL? And this is a lodge that is 115 years old? SMH If true, that's just a perfect illustration how far this organization has fallen. We do not seem to be attracting people with business and administration abilities or if we do then they are not willing to take on leadership responsibilities.
