Det finns omkring tvåhundra olika cancerformer, beroende på i vilken vävnad den första cancercellen uppstår.Av dagens behandlingsformer är kirurgi den äldsta men det är också den behandlingsform som botar flest patienter.

Cytostatika är en grupp läkemedel som främst används mot olika cancersjukdomar. De fungerar genom att döda tumörcellerna. Tidigare har dessa läkemedel kallats för cellgifter.
