Downloadable app to use Word Magnets on your own computer (requires registration). Sentences are broken up into words that can be rearranged and moved around the desktop to make poetry, re-create a target sentence, or make new sentences and punctuate it. A screencaster on the Internet--nothing to download. For Mac or PC, you can record anything within a liited frame for 5 min., so this would be nice to help students start running a program or to create their own short presentations. Easy to upload to YouTube, embed on a Website, or download as mp4. See R. Stannard's instructional video

Despite the explanatory text, this app is indeed ready to download for iPad ($0.99). This is a nice use of technology to explain other technologies. You go through a browser screen to a Website, then draw on the iPad screen to demonstrate functionality while the app records what you do. Publish to Evernote or YouTube. You will have to do your own audio over, however. What a cool app.

Stannard's training video on how to use Windows Movie Maker (Windows 7) is very detailed and complete. Subsequent parts give directions for XP and Vista. He first suggests downloading the free classic version, which has more features than WMM for Win 7.

Targets readers 13 and up. A community that seeks to build an audience for audiobooks. Listeners can choose to join a conversation about titles. Also has downloadable posters, bookmarks, etc.

The final project can be downloaded and images placed on your own website or blog.

You can save to desktop and so free your class of Internet requirements or read and listen on the Web. You can browse alphabetically by author, title, subject matter, or by Reading Level.

"Plays on most smart phones. Video mails up to 10 minutes. Video stored up to 365 days. No account or downloads." This would e fun for students to use to practice speaking and presentations. Especially good because there is no sign-in. See Russell Stannard's training video at

A webconferencing tool that allows you to upload files for interactive sharing. A Skype-friendly site. No registration, no downloading. Instructional video.

Audio and some video titl at these sites are free. I think you might be able to use a desktop recorder like Audacity to record a book to a set of files to take with you, or put on an iPhone. (Avoid the ads at the top of this page--the article is below.)
