The History of Smallpox - 0 views

  •
back in the 17th century small pox was a big thing because there was no cure for it there was a vaccine but theres a big chance of getting it anyway even though you got the vaccine, they didnt have needles back then so they cut open the persons skin with a scalpel and insert a small portion of the virus into a person so they would get use to it, you could have got it theres a 50, 50 chance to get it though. ( btw, they got the vaccine from a sick person the persons like a sacrifice to save other people, doctors would cut off some of the virus and insert it into the patient ( sick i know ! )

Slaves in the time of George Washington's time were treated with no respect. the slaves would get sold for tobacco and money.also even when the black people were free they would still have to respect all the white people because they weren't treated the same as other free citizens.like there was a woman named Francis and she was a free African American that wasn't treated the same as the whites she would go to court for thingts she would do and wipe her. then she went to court again and they made her become a slave for 10 years. then her owner told her if he dies she was free but that didn't happen to her. the slave owner died and she went back to court because they didn't believe her so the family of the died slave owner got the slave to work for them for the rest of there life.

The slaves would be sold seperatly. For example a mother and father wwith two kids. The kids would be sold without the rest of the family. But some people such as george washington would not sell the slaves he owned in such a way.

This was a big thing in colonial times. slaves were sold as property. They belonged to you forver unless they die or you set them free. On the way to America about half the slaves died. But all people didn't believe in slavery.

Bundling (tradition) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 1 views

  • Bundling, or Tarrying, was the traditional practice of wrapping one person in a bed accompanied by another, usually as a part of courting behavior. The tradition is thought to have originated either in the Netherlands or in the British Isles and later became common in Colonial America[1], especially in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. When used for courtship, the aim was to allow intimacy without sexual intercourse.
