Personally, I feel like it was wrong for Ted Cruz to go to Cancun when Texas is freezing and having a power outage. What are your thoughts on this?

Why would you abandon your state when they need you most? Sounds selfish and morally just wrong.
-
I think that Ted Cruz was dumb for this because he is a senator and should be trying to do something about their outages but instead he became selfish and fled to Mexico.
Biden's COVID stimulus bill passes Senate, legislation heads to House - 15 views
-
"The Democratic-controlled Senate Saturday overcame Republican roadblocks and a debate that lasted beyond 24 hours to pass President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package which would provide millions of Americans with $1,400 direct payments, billions of dollars for vaccine distribution, and funds to help reopen schools and colleges."

I think this is good because it gives people who lost money during covid a chance to buy some extra things for themselves or their families.

I think the stimulus check was good for a lot of people that really did need it since they didn't have a job due to covid.
76% of Georgia Voters Think It Shouldn't Be a Crime to Give Voters Food and Water While on Line - 13 views
-
This new bill is making it easier to cause voter suppression. Making it harder to request an absentee ballot and decreasing the number of ballot boxes will make it harder for people to vote, on top of waiting in a long line in the hot Georgian sun.

I've looked into this bill a lot and at this point, it is Republican Lawmakers trying to get the more densely populated areas of Georiga to not be able to vote as easily. Typically the more heavily populated areas of any state are typically Democratic. So to me and many others, it's pretty easy to see they are trying to suppress Democrat Votes to make it so a Democrat will never win Georiga again.
-
I dont understand how this is a crime as it's just helping people while they wait, and without food or water it could make people not want to vote.
Virginia move to abolish death penalty part of broader wave of change - CSMonitor.com - 27 views

Do you guys think the death penalty should still be around?

I think that the accused should be able to choose between life in prison or the death penalty.
-
they should not have the death penalty anymore. If someone does something really bad, they should get life in prison because they will forever suffer.

Democrats Propose Phasing in $15 Minimum Wage Over Five Years - Bloomberg - 34 views
-
What is your view on increasing the minimum wage? This is a BIG topic that I'm sure has perspectives on both sides.
- ...31 more comments...
-
Personally, I believe we should not raise the minimum wage because there's a reason it's minimum wage because they're minimum jobs. A slight rise in the adult minimum wage would be fine due to them needing to support what they have but the youth wage can stay the same.
-
I think raising the minimum wage is a good idea. People can't live off of $7.00 to provide for their families. Some people don't have a better education or aren't a good fit for a higher paying job and $7.00 isn't enough.

It's not just Facebook. Thousands of companies are spying on you (opinion) - CNN - 4 views

"But for every article about Facebook's creepy stalker behavior, thousands of other companies are breathing a collective sigh of relief that it's Facebook and not them in the spotlight. Because while Facebook is one of the biggest players in this space, there are thousands of other companies that spy on and manipulate us for profit."

I found this new information within the article to be very disturbing, and yet, there are some aspects that I'm not surprised about. I have already comprehended the fact that Google can track all of your searches and that causes ads to be related to your own interests but for media to constantly monitor my actions just from my phone? That's disturbing once you think and look into it.

I was watching a video actually on Facebook and this couple heard about facebook stalking people so they decided to talk about cat food for 3 days with facebook open and offline then they opened it one day to cat food adds on their facebook which is really creepy to me.

Hilarious metaphor, and seeing the reactions of the customers was priceless. Although it's quite disheartening that the majority did not know what Net Neutrality was.

I think that this was a perfect way to explain what net neutrality was and what it protected. I also think that the exaggeration of it made it even better.

These pictures are so great, I can feel his passion, love and work he's put into this country. They show so many cool things you didn't think the president did and his warmth for this country and love for his family. Haven't see any pictures like this of any other leaders. I'm impressed.
-
My favorite picture was Obama was visiting the Sphinx, He wanted to seek a new begging with Muslims and the US, and thats good because not all Muslims are terrorists although many Americans think that.

A convoy carrying desperately needed food aid to a besieged Syrian town set off Monday as part of a U.N-backed agreement to bring relief to people believed to be facing starvation. Several dozen vehicles bringing food and medical supplies left the Syrian capital, Damascus, for Madaya, a town near the Lebanese border cut off by Syrian forces.

I think that we should take refugees in because they're trying to get out of that environment and the U.S could be a lot of help to them, but I also think we should keep our eyes opened because we don't know who is a threat and who isn't. It's a tough decision to be honest.
-
I think that it's up to the government and not the individual states to decide whether to let the immigrants in or not
Students Suspended for Clothing Displaying Confederate Flag - 10 views
-
About 20 students at a Virginia high school received a one-day suspension for wearing clothing displaying the Confederate flag. Montgomery County Public Schools spokeswoman Brenda Drake says the clothing violated Christiansburg High School's dress code. Drake tells WSLS-TV ( http://bit.ly/1NFFsrk ) that the students refused to comply with the dress code after they arrived at the school Thursday.

I think that they should be able to wear clothes that have that it shouldn't matter they are showing that they have pride in were they came from the confederate flag shouldn't be taking away. My favorite TV show the Dukes of Hazard won't be aired on TV anymore because of people throwing a fit about it and the dukes have it because the have pride in were they live/came from. Yeah I know there's racism under the flag but people say they want to move on but get rid of the flag. If the have pride that's why they were the flag not to be racist then the should be able to were the flag

It is great to see so many comments on this case, we will be discussing this specifically in regards to our First Amendment rights together in class. Food for thought might be to consider what a symbol might represent to one group can be very different for another (think Nazi swastika and it's origin). I especially agree with Sophia who asks whether using a symbol so closely tied with racism begs the question of what aspects of Southern pride you are showing you are proud of?
90-year-old Florida man charged for feeding homeless people - 28 views
-
(CNN) -- Arnold Abbott handed out four plates of food to homeless people in a South Florida park. Then police stopped the 90-year-old from serving up another bite. "An officer said, 'Drop that plate right now -- like I had a weapon,'" Abbott said.

There is nothing wrong with feeding those who don't have food. But I also believe at some point these people should have done something to prevent themselves from getting to the point that they can't afford food. Everybody gets a chance to try to find a place where they can support themselves. But I also believe it is wrong to prevent someone from trying to help them along, all they are trying to do is make their lives a little bit easier. There is no reason this man should be put in jail, he has done no wrong.
-
I don't see anything wrong with giving to the homeless, but instead of giving an giving I would try and get them a job or help them
Michelle Obama's School Lunches Starve Kids - 0 views

RUSH: Okay. We had this as our Morning Update today, but in case you missed it. "School officials in Carmel Clay, Ind., said they lost $300,000 last school year because students are rejecting the healthy menu changes brought on by First Lady Michelle Obama's federal lunch regulations.

Some of the students that are told to pay for the lunch, can't afford it and refuses to pay for it. Who wants [ay for a meal that they don't like and probably won't benefit them? It's the student choice not the schools.
-
I think this is a good idea, but we need to figure out how to make lunch affordable and healthy all at the same time.
