"In 1994, a few years after graduating from Edinburgh Art College with a degree in Drawing and Painting, I left Scotland for a new adventure in Hong Kong. I was struck by the sheer intensity of colours and design-style of all things Chinese, be that packaging, religious symbols, signs, labels or type. For three years, I received commissions from Hong Kong's major magazines and advertisers, but was frustrated by the limitations of the style I had created. My dream was realised when I won a place to study for a Masters at London's Royal College of Art. It was here that I discovered I could combine my drawing skills with the digital medium. This provided me with the tools I needed to realise my graphic visions. Gaining confidence in my new-found style, I returned to my Asian flavoured 'paintings' with gusto, this time bringing on board more elaborate and obscure sources, inspired by toys, communist-era propaganda, the Fifties, the Forties, sweets and packaging. In 2005, I returned to Asia for inspiration. This time moving to the romantic and inspirational former French Concession in Shanghai for a year-long sourcing adventure. I have now returned to my childhood roots of living by the sea, and now live in the beautiful English seaside city of Brighton."

Portfolio of Jesse van Dijk - Project Indigo - 0 views

Project Indigo (working title): Design of a vertical seaside metropolis "In december 2007 I sketched around a single theme for a while as a personal side project. I tried to envision what a huge -vertical- seaside city would look like in a world where dry land is very precious. This city would be situated on a huge pillar in a 'cavity' in the sea; possibly an inactive volcano crater of some sorts. I assumed a level of technology of western European countries around the seventeenth century. Naturally I had to take some huge liberties with the actual mechanical possibilities of these constraints to make a city in a hole in the sea work, not to mention a vertical city. As far as technique was concerned, I was not interested in creating pretty pictures, but I wanted to present a more or less solid approach to the theme described above."

    About:
DesignCorner is a feed aggregator for design related feeds, with special interest on product design, graphics and visuals, interaction, research and innovation…
Feeds are aggregated manually and posts are kept or deleted in order to display the best and freshest news about design.

This website is really a wonderful source for all who can't live without something new in daily basis. It covers from visual to stuff, from interaction to architecture (they all come in differnt feeds. How sweet is that!). And who decides that? It's YOU!! Their members/readers apparently are the boss 'cause  you can add anything fresh, informative or creative but others enjoy the equal right and freedom of deleting whatever hateful. It's a nice tactic, and working very very well for me! :D

I am a korean aquarius vata-dosha rat who grew up in Queens and currently reside in Brooklyn, NY. I work for an amazing artist and am a freelance arts writer. I spend my free time obsessing about my lack of free time. I collect, consume, archive, and inventory my experiences, hence the start of this blog as an outlet. I write, read, draw, cook, craft, walk my dog, ride my bike, recite mantras during a storm, daydream, jog, dance, meditate, perform sun salutations, and sunbathe when possible.

Designing my life: Turn Yourself Into a Cartoon - 3 views

  •
I put this video together to show you how I turned myself into a cartoon. I did this because I noticed some services/websites out there that offer to turn your pictures into a cartoon for a fee / price. So to show you just how easy (or difficult) it can be I recorded myself turning myself (and partner) into a cartoon.

mental_floss Blog » He Took a Polaroid Every Day, Until the Day He Died - 1 views

  •
Yesterday I came across a slightly mysterious website - a collection of Polaroids, one per day, from March 31, 1979 through October 25, 1997. There's no author listed, no contact info, and no other indication as to where these came from. So, naturally, I started looking through the photos. I was stunned by what I found. In 1979 the photos start casually, with pictures of friends, picnics, dinners, and so on. Here's an example from April 23, 1979 (I believe the photographer of the series is the man in the left foreground in this picture):

That's a great collection. Bantjes' is genius like all of her work. Ian - I like the combination of light and dark in yours. It has a very contemporary feel, but I also see some influences like Art Nouveau at work in it. Do you like Art Nouveau?
  •
To cewsom: I do like Art Nouveau, especially the organic patterns. Glad that like this design (I put lots of thoughts in this, obviously), just like most of my customers. :P The combination of light and dark, including the colors, helps to create a certain mood. I hope it arouses some excitement without being excessive and over dispersive. Actually this design is based on my latest digital work, in which I tried to adopt and experiment some elements (colors, curves, etc.) I never used before.

lf121, Graphics: Gimp: using mask layers - 0 views

  •
I was searching for a step-by-step tutorial on making an image fade into the background (in GIMP), the knowledge of which, I guess, is quite a essential for all graphic designers, and I still can't believe how I was left ignorant til NOW!

Ignorance of ignorance, is the death of knowledge, just like what Alfred North Whitehead said.

Thumbtack Press Artist Submission Acceptence Critiera (TPASAC):
I ask myself: "Would I personally hang this in my own house?" If yes, accepted!  (from http://www.thumbtackpress.com/blog/?p=42)

jasinski on deviantART - 0 views

Certainly not every deviant has more than 445,000 visitors (or ever will), but this can only be tranlated as a mere fact that Mr. Jasiniski has something special in his works (as the left image called "The Drummer") that reminds you of songs like "Can't Takes My Eyes off of You." It's quite a long journey if you wanna take a trip through his visual gallery, but it's never tiring but pleasing and refreshing. From simple composition to crowds of cartoon characters, from deadly facial expressions to barely possible combo of colors, his aesthetic power never stops but always explodes in each work. My instinct let me bookmark his page immediately and jot down those words, as for my nature, it tells me uniqueness can't happen unless you run into it at times.

I joined this group to expand my horizon. Christopher you have made some good post, this is not one of them. I am a busy person I stop by this group to get some inspiration, knowledge, etc. I even double checked before I posted this to see if there was something I was missing. Why do I want to look at this? What does it have to do with art?

Right - what is it about not knowing what to draw? The question I keep asking myself is; "How can I keep myself from drawing every single thing I see?"

beinArt Surreal Art Collective - 0 views

  •
I wish I know who is the aritst who made this marveloust painting, which is currently featured on the homepage of beinArt Surreal Art Collective, a really amazing place for artists of all media. It's the surrealism that truly attracts me, part of the reason is that I don't do surreals, and I'm naturally drawn to things I can't make or don't understand. It's a good thing that my FF takes about 25 seconds to read the Artists page, but a bit of virtue of patience is always rewarding, indeed!- Ian
