TipLine - Gates' Computer Tips: Why the iPads are NOT Ready for Schools - 0 views

  •
Here is a list of tasks that just don't work, or are so clunky as to be more trouble than they're worth. I hope that folks who are contemplating the purchase of ipads will read this carefully and weigh it against the other opinions. But it won't matter, will it? Those who are pushing for the ipads won't be swayed.

Via Judy "I just ran across a website that is a really exciting tool for anyone reflecting on their foreign travel or interested in practicing their foreign language.Woices  www.woices.com is a website that gives you the ability to create free geolocalized audioguides. Sample guides are:* a walk in Valencia http://woices.com/walk/33 in Spanish * a walk in London London http://woices.com/walk/13 in English. Students could create their own tours of places they have been. Woices walks you through the process and provides the map, a place to upload your own photos and the ability to record 10 minutes of audio at each stop. When you're done you can embed the production in any web page and download the audio file.It creates a very nice product and one that others would want to listen to and learn from.If you know someone not listed here who you think might enjoy this, please pass it on."

Explaining Creative Commons Licensing | edte.ch - 0 views

  • It is often difficult to explain what Creative Commons licensing is to students and teachers – this short film does a pretty good job of presenting the facts. I do think there is a need for more high quality resources to help teach licensing of digital content and especially resources to communicate what it all means to young student. What do you think?

Creative Commons: an Educational Primer | EdReach - 0 views

  •
    * This brief article provides an overview of Creative Commons relevant to educators. While copyright laws provide some provision for educational uses, materials (e.g., texts, videos, audio, images, etc.) released under one of the Creative Commons licenses are actually much easier to incorporate into course content. Rather than just linking to a source, you may have the licensed right to incorporate and edit the material directly
