Blog U.: The Digital Native Fundamental Attribution Error - Technology and Learning - I... - 0 views

Where Levine gets it wrong is to assume that this shift is being driven by the demand of digital natives for new methods of teaching and learning. Levine writes that, "Today's traditional undergraduates, aged 18 to 25, are digital natives. They grew up in a world of computers, Internet, cell phones, MP3 players, and social networking." I recommend that Arthur Levine, and all of you, download (buy, whatever) a copy of Clay Shirky's new book Cognitive Surplus: Creativity and Generosity in a Connected Age. Shirky talks about the fundamental_attribution_error, the tendency to explain behaviors as the result of character as opposed to the opportunity structure.

THE WORLD QUESTION CENTER 2010- Page 1 - 0 views

The Internet's primary effect on how we think will only reveal itself when it affects the cultural milieu of thought, not just the behavior of individual users. The members of the Invisible College did not live to see the full flowering of the scientific method, and we will not live to see what use humanity makes of a medium for sharing that is cheap, instant, and global (both in the sense of 'comes from everyone' and 'goes everywhere.') We are, however, the people who are setting the earliest patterns for this medium. Our fate won't matter much, but the norms we set will.

"You've read the news-everyone wants to be green now. But do you really know how your personal choices are adding up? What about the choices of your fellow citizens? How well are people around the globe adopting behaviors that can make the world a more environmentally sustainable place? How have they changed over the past year?"

Just a lighthearted reminder that, even if the lure of the connected digital world gets people to skimp on the Gilligan's Island reruns, that doesn't necessarily mean their replacement behaviors will be any more productive. They could instead bring an ever greater capacity for distraction and disengagement and slingshot precision.

"My goal is to instill appropriate mobile-technology behaviors because they will be using these devices in their professional careers. As a teacher, should I be alarmed about their desire to stay connected? Quite the opposite, I believe." Issues: audio and video recording of lectures/classes

End of Semester Guide for Instructors - TOC: TCNJ Canvas Online Resources - 0 views

  •
This is our first large scale production "end of semester" with Canvas. We tried to capture the most important points without overwhelming you with details. Additionally, as Instructure receives feedback, Canvas behavior may change from what is outlined here. We will do our best to keep you informed with the latest changes from Instructure. At this time, there is no set time limit for courses to exist in Canvas. The college is discussing an appropriate time frame. Until this time frame is decided, we will not be deleting courses. We still recommend taking steps to back up important items from your course, especially the grade book and course structure.
