Teaching Yoga and Effective Themes: Stress Relief - Aura Wellness Center - Yoga Instructor Certification - 0 views

  •
By: Virginia Iversen, M.Ed. Can you think of effective themes for Yoga sessions that are based on the seasons? Although many of us visualize the carefree days of summer, the summertime can also be filled with long "to-do" lists, as many of us plan assiduously to fit in all of the activities we had planned to do, during these supposed "lazy days." The same is true of many of the seasons during the year. For instance, during the fall many Yogis and Yoginis rush to fit in that final trip to the wilderness or to the ocean. In a similar fashion, the holiday season, as festive as it is, is also often a time of heightened stress, because of all the extra gatherings with family and friends.

What to Do with Difficult Yoga Students? - 0 views

  •
By Dr. Paul Jerard, E-RYT 500 Are there any difficult Yoga students? For the most part, our students are the best part of what we do. Many student / teacher relationships are friendships as well. However, at least once a week, I receive an Email about how to handle difficult Yoga students. Unfortunately, you could be the kindest and safest teacher within a 100-mile radius, but eventually you will run into a difficult student. One common reaction to being verbally assaulted by a student is to think, "Why me?"

  •
By Kathryn Boland Do you see students practicing backbends in similar potentially dangerous ways? Do you have strategies for working against this - proactively and/or retroactively? Backbending has incredible benefits- contributing to strength-building, stretching out various muscles, and offering energy boosts. We're dealing with the spine, however, so the potential for significant damage is very real.

About Yoga and the Vagus Nerve - Yoga Instructor Blog - 0 views

  •
By Gopi Rao Sometimes we refer to our instinctive wisdom as "gut feelings." Maybe we don't know why we feel the way we do or how we know the answer to a question. We just do. Some of us chalk it up to instinct or a sixth sense while others discount the phenomenon altogether. Could there be a scientific explanation? The answer may be the vagus nerve, a physical link to the mind-body connection.

How to Prevent Yoga Student Injuries - Yoga Teacher Training Blog - 0 views

  •
By Jenny Park Yoga has become more popular worldwide in the last two decades, with classes popping up in gyms, and fitness and community centers across the country. Its popularity is exciting to those of us who have been reaping the benefits for years and want to "share the wealth." However, along with its newfound popularity comes an increase in yoga-related injuries. In some cases, inexperienced students might be pushing themselves too far, and in other instances yoga instructors might not be doing the best job of educating participants on potential risks of each pose. Both instructors and students need to make sure they are doing all they can to prevent injuries when practicing yoga.

Yoga Teacher Training: Cueing Physically Without Touching - 0 views

  •
By Kathryn Boland Do you teach in settings where higher-ups frown upon, perhaps even prohibit, physical cueing? Do you sometimes struggle to find alternate ways to help your students achieve safe and optimally beneficial postures? Such cases will be increasingly common in settings like hospitals, mental health care institutions, memory care units, jails, and substance abuse rehabilitation sites. In these settings, physical cueing may very well trigger students who have experienced trauma, or be misunderstood by those in compromised mental states.

Yoga Teachers Lead by Example - Yoga Teacher Training Blog - 0 views

  •
By Dr. Paul Jerard, E-RYT 500 During the course of a lifetime, most of us have heard the saying," Do as I say, not as I Do." We see this kind of leadership everywhere we go. All politicians, religious leaders, police, sports professionals, parents, academic teachers, and Yoga teachers, lead by example, even if the example displayed is not a good one.

Yoga Teacher Training: Architectural Asana - Building the Foundation First - 0 views

  •
By Kathryn Boland Do you notice how 99 percent of the time in yoga asana practices; we seek to make right angles (90 degrees) in one to many locations in the body? Do you find yourself often cueing your students towards this structure? Just like with buildings, square structure adds stability. A main reason for this is basic physics: when something is slanted, gravity can exert greater force on it. In the body, that means greater muscular force must counteract that force - or one falls to the ground.

Children as young as three can do simple yoga exercises; in addition to helping a child improve balance, coordination, and body strength, yoga exercises are something that parents and children can do together. In addition to a calming, pleasant exercise, yoga provides opportunities for parents to provide instruction and build trust and communication bonds with their children. And yoga is not just appropriate for small child/parent groups within the home. Larger groups of children respond well to yoga in both classroom and studio settings.

Yoga and Meditation For Panic Attacks - Yoga Teacher Training Blog - 0 views

  •
By Kimaya Singh Stress and mental health issues are unfortunately a part of our lives. They can affect your relationships and even your physical health. Many people suffer from panic attacks. They often occur during times of high stress, such as a major life change or a traumatic event. Panic attacks often feel like heart attacks. The symptoms include dizziness, heart palpitations, shortness of breath and even fainting. Although it can be very frightening, it is a common and treatable condition. The best way to reduce or prevent panic attacks from occurring is to reduce the amount of stress in your life and find better ways to deal with the stress and anxiety that you do have. One of the most natural ways to do that is through Yoga.

I like yoga because it is great at any age. Everyone can do it, from children to senior people.
  •
Absolutely agree! Yoga is great for everyone. And it is convenient that you can do it everywhere. My grandmother does it sitting on a sofa. She found a good guide here https://betterme.world/articles/sofa-yoga-for-seniors/ and follows it at least three times a week. It really helps her stay fit and feel better.
