Then it shelled out $400 million for a secretive deep learning startup called deepMind. Much like Facebook, Microsoft, and others, Google sees deep learning as the future of AI on the web, a better way of handling everything from voice and image recognition to language translation. But there's one notable deep learning company that Google hasn't yet bought. It's called Clarifai, and it may remain as an independent operation. Clarifai, you see, wants to open up some of the deep learning secrets used by Google, Facebook, and other companies and share them with the rest of the world.
