"ABSTRACT With the advent of ecommerce and the growth of 'open' systems communications networks, managers in industry have been confronted by the assaults of technology, an evolving employee profile, and changing sets of leadership and motivational challenges. Corporate management architectures, so firmly built for the age of globalization, are today's ruins of the global village. The virtually-extended enterprise can no longer be managed with the tools of a lost era. A new management model is evolving that supports existing and future knowledge platforms and reengineers rather than retards knowledge creation and systems. This chapter examines a Cybercentristic management model based upon a series of dynamics taken from past research, including collaborative workplace technologies, knowledge leadership methodologies, and knowledge sharer and knowledge sharing networks. These are contrasted against Geocentric values. The results of this discussion are keyed into a Cybercentric teleology, constructed to form the basis for future research into the knowledge management model heir-apparent for the cyber century."

Managing from a distance - How to manage virtual teams | Deloitte SA Blog - 0 views

"Managing from a distance - How to manage virtual teams This blog post follows the Deloitte e-tolling article (written by Candice Silverstone and published on the 18th March 2011) which discussed the effect e-tolling will have on employees. I have provided an excerpt from the article below: "Given the impact that this proposed system will have on organisations and their employees, it is crucial that companies consider the implications on their Reward and Travel policies and practices, as well as changes to traditional modes of working. In order to cut travel time and associated costs, the creation of home offices, particularly by professionals and knowledge workers, is likely to become more attractive with the implementation of e-tolling. The trend of remote/off-site/virtual teams is therefore likely to increase, particularly with advances of technology. Such working arrangements may present socio-psychological challenges however, such as a decline in team spirit due to little personal contact and supervision, feelings of social isolation as a result of increased use and dependence on technology, and poor employee well-being and frustration due to possible role uncertainty". Managing from a Distance - How to manage virtual, remote and/or dispersed teams by Candice Silverstone of Deloitte Consulting As many organisations are aware, non-traditional teams are growing locally and internationally as enterprises convert to global organisational structures and invest in more complex technology. The introduction of toll roads is also likely to decrease face to face time in the hope of reducing travel costs. It is time to stop thinking of dispersed teams as special cases and start developing management strategies for dealing with the new challenges that they create so as not to risk team dysfunction and sub-optimal performance. Critical Success Factors for High Performing Dispersed Teams Extensive research, coupled with our own client experience, demonstrates

Organizacje pierwszej dekady XXI wieku działające w niezwykle dynamicznym, zmiennym i złożonym środowisku stają obecnie przed szeregiem ważnych wyzwań.

Barbara Hardy Institute (BHI), School of Natural and Built Environments, University of South Australia, G.P.O. Box 2471, Adelaide, SA 5001, Australia View references (122) Abstract Although GVTs can bring about many benefits for organisations, the potential advantages of using GVTs largely depend upon fulfilling the requirements prescribed by the critical success factors (CSFs) of implementing GVTs such as resolving the multiculturalism issues. Likewise, it is acknowledged that management aspects of implementing GVTs present one of the most complicated tasks in deploying the foregoing teams in organisations. These complications have roots in the necessity of using ICTs as the main medium exacerbated by multiculturalism and geographical dispersion of members. The area is in need of further research, which necessitates building intermediate theories and frameworks. This paper aims at critically observing and analysing the existing literature on managing GVTs as the first step resulting in developing theoretical frameworks. Drawing upon a dynamic integrated approach, this paper presents a conceptual meta-framework for incorporating different issues of managing GVTs titled as 'Dynamic Package of Managing' (DPM) global virtual teams. Virtual R&D Teams Definition, By: Dr. Nader Ale Ebrahim - 0 views

  •   Virtual R&D Teams Definition Nader Ale Ebrahim  The literature related to virtual R&D teams reveals a lack of depth in the definitions(AleEbrahim et al., 2010). Although virtual teamwork is a current topic in the literatureconcerning global organizations, it is problematic to define the meaning of 'virtual teams'across multiple institutional contexts (Chudoba et al., 2005). The concept of a "team" isdescribed as a small number of people with complementary skills who are equally committedto a common purpose, goal, and working approach for which they hold themselves mutuallyaccountable (Zenun et al., 2007). It is worth mentioning that virtual teams (VTs) are oftenformed to overcome geographical or temporal separations (Cascio and Shurygailo, 2003).VTs work across boundaries of time and space using modern computer-driven technologies(Ebrahim et al., 2010). The term "VTs" is used to cover a wide range of activities and forms of technology-supported working (Anderson et al., 2007). Gassmann and Von Zedtwitz(2003) defined "virtual team as a group of people and sub-teams who interact throughinterdependent tasks guided by common purpose and work across links strengthened byinformation, communication, and transport technologies". Another definition suggests thatvirtual teams, are distributed work teams whose members are geographically dispersed andcoordinate their work, predominantly with electronic information and communicationtechnologies (e-mail, video conferencing, telephone, etc.) (Hertel et al., 2005). From the perspective of Leenders et al. (2003), VTs are groups of individuals collaborating in theexecution of a specific project while geographically and often temporally distributed, possibly anywhere within (and beyond) their parent organization. Among the differentdefinitions for virtual teams the following form is one of the most widely accepted definition:''VTs as groups of geographically, organizationally and/or time dispersed workers broughttogether by information technologies to accomplish one or more organization tasks''(Powellet al., 2004).Therefore, a comprehensive definition of virtual teams may be taken as:  small temporary groups of geographically, organizationally and/or time dispersed knowledge workers whocoordinate their work, predominantly with electronic information and communicationtechnologies in order to accomplish one or more organization tasks (Ale Ebrahim et al.,2009). Nowadays, this definition have gained popularity as found in Wikipedia(wikipedia,2011). Virtual R&D team is a kind of virtual team that concentrate on the R&D tasks andleft:522px;to
