The role of trust (dis)confirmation in team development Inju YangCorresponding author contact information, E-mail the corresponding author Show more http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.emj.2014.04.001 Get rights and content Abstract Most newly formed teams manage to function in spite of the fact that their members do not know each other. Over time, teams progress into successful units; however, sometimes, they regress into a situation where morale is worse than when the team was created. We explain how such opposing group outcomes can arise by examining team members' (dis)confirmation of expectations in line with the development of trust. We argue that the process of (dis)confirmation of expectations created based on early swift trust is crucial in defining the direction of team development (progression or regression) because it gives rise to emotions which further underpin (dis)trust. We present six sets of propositions which taken together construct a framework for understanding the role of (dis)confirmation and subsequent emotions during the process of trust updating and of team development. We provide a conceptual view of individuals' experiences within a team and their impact on team dynamics in a way which could form the basis of future empirical testing. Keywords Team development; Trust; (Dis)confirmation; Emotions"

"Virtual R&D teams in small and medium enterprises: a literature review Ale Ebrahim, Nader and Ahmed, S. and Taha, Zahari (2009) Virtual R&D teams in small and medium enterprises: a literature review. [Journal (Paginated)] Full text available as: [img] PDF - Published Version 387Kb Abstract Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the driving engine behind economic growth. While SMEs play a critical role in generating employment and supporting trade, they face numerous challenges, the prominent among them are the need to respond to fasting time-to-market, low-cost and rapid solutions to complex organizational problems. Towards that end, research and development (R & D) aspect deserves particular attention to promote and facilitate the operations of SMEs. Virtual R & D team could be a viable option. However, literature shows that virtual R & D teaming in SMEs is still at its infancy. This article provides a comprehensive literature review on different aspects of virtual R & D teams collected from the reputed publications. The purpose of the state-of-the-art literature review is to provide an overview on the structure and dynamics of R & D collaboration in SMEs. Specifying the foundation and importance of virtual teams, the relationship between virtual R & D team and SMEs has been examined. It concludes with the identification of the gaps in the existing literature's and calls for future research. It is argued that setting-up an infrastructure for virtual R & D team in SMEs still requires a large amount of engineering efforts and deserves consideration at top level management. Relationship between R&D Globalization and R&D Virtualization - 0 views

  • Relationship between R&D Globalization and R&D Virtualization   BibTex | RIS | RefWorks Download Nader Ale Ebrahim, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Zahari Taha The globalization of Research and Development (R&D) is not a recent phenomenon. Since the1960s, for various reasons, companies have been performing some kind of R&D activities outside their home countries. The pressure of globalization competition force producers to continuously innovate and upgrade the quality of existing products. The mega trends like globalization and high demand fluctuation force companies and supply chains to innovate new business models to gain and maintain competitive position. Networking, outsourcing, and information and communication technology are considered as general tools and means to respond to these challenges. The development of powerful ICTs has facilitated globalization. The globalization and the new waves of global trends in economy, services and business along with advances in telecommunications technology have paved the way for the formation and the performance of virtual teams. Virtualization in R&D has recently started to make serious headway due to developments in technology. In this paper the relationship between R&D virtualization and R&D globalization will be discussed. Although most R&D activity has for a long time been concentrated in a few advanced economies, this is now beginning to change and R&D activity is becoming more geographically dispersed and technologically specialized. Finding shows that decision to use a virtual R&D team is often a necessity and not a choice. Published in 2008.

Abstract At present, the existing literature shows that the factors which influence the effectiveness of virtual teams for new product development are still ambiguous. To address this problem, a research design was developed, which includes detailed literature review, preliminary model and field survey. From literature review, the factors which influence the effectiveness of virtual teams are identified and these factors are modified using a field survey. The relationship between knowledge workers (people), process and technology in virtual teams is explored in this study. The results of the study suggest that technology and process are tightly correlated and need to be considered early in virtual teams. The use of software as a service, web solution, report generator and tracking system should be incorporated for effectiveness virtual teams. "Marketing and Design in Organisational New Product Development: Early Evidence From New Zealand Manufacturing Firms Sun, Susan URI: http://hdl.handle.net/10063/2498 Date: 2012-11-02 Abstract: The multidisciplinary nature of organisational new product development (NPD) suggests that the development of successful new products is dependent upon the individual and combined efforts of various functions. Despite being recognised as two highly important disciplines in NPD, marketing and design have received little empirical examination of their roles in the NPD process and their effects on NPD outcome. In order to address this gap within the literature, the objectives of this thesis were to assess the presence of marketing and design in NPD, explore the nature of the marketing-design relationship, and examine the effects of marketing influence, design influence, and the level of marketing-design connectedness on NPD outcome. The study was set within the New Zealand context and data was collected via a web-based survey from 91 manufacturing firms that adopted both marketing and design in their NPD programmes. The results showed marketing and design to be two highly influential functions in NPD. Both functions were also found to be strongly involved in the NPD process. A positive relationship was found between marketing and design's functional influence, which suggested the possibility of an interdependent relationship between the two disciplines. Finally, marketing and design were found to affect different aspects of NPD outcome, with marketing positively affecting product innovativeness, and design positively affecting process proficiency and financial performance. The research has implications for the future development of marketing, design, and NPD theories, as well as for managers seeking to improve their NPD activities through the alignment of their marketing and design functions. "Production Planning & Control Supplier involvement in integrated product development: evidence from a group of Italian SMEs Supplier involvement in integrated product development: evidence from a group of Italian SMEs Preview Buy now DOI: 10.1080/09537287.2011.647870 Patrizia Garengoa* & Roberto Panizzoloa Available online: 16 Jan 2012 Alert me * TOC email alert * TOC RSS feed * Citation email alert * Citation RSS feed Abstract Integrated product development (IPD) is gaining increased attention from practitioners and the academic community as a source of innovation and competitive advantage. However undeniable the importance of the issue is as to how the different actors involved in the process interact among themselves and the supporting factors not being well understood even in the SME context, the availability of empirical research and a comprehensive framework to drive this research remains unavailable. This article contributes to these research gaps by providing theoretical and empirical findings. First, a research framework on IPD is identified. The proposed framework represents a conceptualisation of IPD principles as consisting of three groups of integration enablers, which aim to achieve high internal (among departments) and external (with suppliers and customers) integration: (a) organisational enablers, (b) technological enablers and (c) methodologies. Then, a multiple case study approach is used in order to empirically explore external integration with suppliers in product development in 22 SMEs from the machine tool sector. * View full text * Download full text"
