"What is the Teacher Education and Professional Development program? The Teacher Education and Professional Development program is a partnership between USAID, the Ministry of Education and the private sector. The Government's commitment to universal primary education includes a commitment to improving the quality of education even as the number of students increases. The program builds the skills and expertise of educators, and enables Kenya's public teacher training colleges to prepare teachers to deliver quality education by strengthening pre-service training and linking it to in-service professional development. USAID supports this program by transferring knowledge of international practices in teacher education and institution building, and by providing technology to enhance teacher training and the classroom experience. The Permanent Secretary of Education visited the pilot sites and evaluated the program to inform a Government strategy to roll out integration of technology in classrooms throughout Kenya. "

"The next EuroAfrica-ICT/P8 Regional Workshop on 'Awareness & Training on Africa-­EU ICT research opportunities' is taking place on June 25-26, 2013 at the Terrou-bi Hotel in Dakar, Senegal. The event is organised under the aegis of the European Commission (DG CONNECT) by the EuroAfrica-ICT/P8 Project (ESMT, Senegal with the support of Sigma Orionis, France and CSIR, South Africa) and in collaboration with the ERAfrica Project (IRD on behalf of the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research, MESR)."

Context The Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC) is the first regional agreement for regional maritime cooperation and a necessary framework for any further project supporting regional maritime capacity building. The Djibouti Regional Training Centre (DRTC)1, located in Djibouti, was created to coordinate and deliver maritime training and documentation, one of the four pillars of the Code. On a regular basis, the AQUAEXCEL project invites proposals from European research groups for scientific research that utilises the facilities of any of the participating Aquaculture Research Infrastructures. The AQUAEXCEL project unites major aquaculture experimental facilities with capacity to undertake experimental trials on a selection of commercially important fish aquaculture species and system types. These facilities are made available to the research community for Transnational Access (TNA) with the support of the European Union 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (Infrastructures). The facilities available cover the entire range of production systems (recirculation, flow‐through, cage, hatchery and pond systems); environments (freshwater and marine, cold, temperate and warm water); scales (small, medium and industrial scale); fish species (salmon, trout, sea bass, sea bream, cod, common carp etc.); and fields of expertise (nutrition, physiology, health and welfare, genetics, engineering, monitoring and management technologies).

"The NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NPCA), in collaboration with the Government of Republic of Benin and with the support of the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), organise the first Africa Rural Development Forum (ARDF) slated for 2-4 May 2013, in Cotonou, Republic of Benin. This forum will be held under the high Patronage of His Excellency, President Boni Yayi of Republic of Benin and within the context of the NEPAD Rural Futures Programme. The theme of the forum is "Sustainable Rural Transformation Agenda for Africa"."

"Europe's most visible forum for ICT research and innovation, ICT2013, will take place from 6-8 November 2013 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The ICT 2013 event will be the first opportunity to learn the details of research funding for ICT-related projects under Horizon 2020, the EU's new research program for 2014-2020. The European Commission proposed an €80 billion package for research & innovation funding, as part of the drive to create sustainable growth and new jobs in Europe. Horizon 2020 will support the development of ICT in Science (in future and emerging technologies or e-Infrastructures); in industrial leadership (such as smart systems, robotics, photonics, etc.) and in societal challenges (such as eHealth, eGovernment and eSkills)."

The REDD+ Monitoring, and Measurement, Reporting and Verification workshop "Training the Trainers" will be held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast from 6-10 February 2017, and will cover Francophone Africa. The workshop is jointly organized by GFOI partners who include World Bank FCPF, FAO/UN-REDD, Wageningen University, and GOFC-GOLD. It is the last in the series of four regional workshops, and will be held in French. The aim of the workshop is to demonstrate the use available training materials and tools covering topics including designing and implementing a national forest inventory, calculating emissions from forest degradation, the use of remote sensing change-detection tools to for deforestation monitoring, and generating IPCC compliant data. With financial support from the government of Sweden, the AAU will make grants of up to US$600 per person to help post-graduate university students acquire practical skills via internships of 12-24 weeks. The grants are for training purposes only, not for the completion of theses or dissertations. The program is open to students in AAU member institutions in southern and eastern Africa, and in Francophone member institutions. The deadline for applications (English, French) is 15 August 2016.

Science can help deliver on these long-term national and regional goals, but only if it receives proper support-especially within Africa itself. Some steps have been made, but more needs to be done and done quickly."

Ms. Angela Arnott, team leader from the ADEA Working Group on Education Management and Policy Support (WG EMPS) represented ADEA at the meeting. In addition to senior officials from SADC countries, there were also participants from the International Labour Organization (ILO), the African Union (AU), and UNESCO."
