Pumkin Online English Language Course for Children - 1 views

  •
Pumkin Online English is a good recourse designed for children who are beginners of English language study, aged 3-10, I find it interesting because this course enables children to master all the key English skills, teaching them the most essential basic English language, "covering over 500 words and sentences including English vocabulary for colors, numbers, body parts, the alphabet and basic sentence and question and answer structure". Furthermore it´s effective because it follows a classroom-tested English language teaching methodology, which includes three steps of English language learning: Presentation, Practice and Production (PPP methodology) of new English vocabulary and grammar. It could be a good supplement to our future pupils in their English language education!

WebQuest Design Patterns - 2 views

  •
This is a list of patterns derived from existing WebQuests that are instructionally solid. To qualify as a design pattern, the lesson should be easily modified to cover different content while using the same basic structure. This webquests are designed for native english speakers. However I found it really interesting, as it can give you ideas that you could adapt and design your own project. I specially liked "Rediscovering Pompeii: The untold stories from 79" and "Designing a backyard Zen Garden" I hope you like it as much as I did! ;)

Assessment for learning - 0 views

Teaching to read using phonics - 1 views

  •
Hi everyone! I want to share with you this amazing page about Phonics materials online. Phonics is a method that we can put into practice in the classroom. I would like to comment briefly some ideas about this method: Phonics is one of the fundamentals methods of learning especially in children. "Phonics is a method that native English speakers use to teach children how to read and write. It is based on the sound of the letters, making the students aware of the existing relation between the phonemes and graphemes, instead of the whole language approach, where words had to be learnt by heart". Furthermore, I would like to know more about what the benefits of phonics are. Although there are alternative methods for teaching children to read and write, phonics is widely regarded as being one of the most effective. Also, allows children to hear phonemes, identify them, and understand how the sounds and their associated letters correlate with one another. The teaching of phonics has been shown to give children a comprehension of how words are constructed very quickly. I hope that this material can be useful for you, see you!

Higher-order questions - 3 views

  •
Annemarie Sulllivan tals us about key concepts in using higher-order questions. I hope that you can see it and you find it useful
  •
I find this video quite interesting because "higher-order" questions promote learning since these types of questions require students to analyze, evaluate and create information instead of simply recall facts. Higher order thinking is imperative to progress and the best way to acquire Higher Order Thinking Skills is through action learning and practice. Having appreciated the participation, the pupil can then begin to acquire theoretical knowledge too. Thank you so much for sharing it!:)

Wallwisher is an Internet application that allows people to express their thoughts on a common topic easily. The "wall" is basically the 'web page' where people actually post messages. We can use Wallwisher for: Brainstorm, Plan events, watch and share videos, keep notes, collect feedback. And in general to teach and learn, you can pose questions, get children answers, and give them feedback, all in the same page. It is very easy to post, you just click double click anywhere on the wall, and people do not need an account to post on a wall. An advantage of this website is that you can use it as a "bookmark favourite sites", you put your links on one wall, can be video links, document links and view them on your wall itself, and therefore it is not necessary to open new pages. A drawback could be that the limit on text is 160 characters, but Wallwisher explains that when they ran their private beta, a rude person hijacked the whole wall pretty much by copy pasting some news articles. For that reason we cannot paste text for our students.

WebQuests are activities, using internet resources, which encourage students to use higher order thinking skills to solve a real messy problem. When I saw Anna's post, I found it really interesting and I started searching about webquest to know a bit more. Here in this page you can find different webquests for different levels and also you can sing in and create your own ones.

It makes me really happy that you liked my post =) and that you decided to look for further information. I really love webquests, although they won't promote high order thinking skills if they're not used propoerly.
