Hi all!
while I was studying for exams I found this site I wanted to share with you. It is a very interesting document on the relation between assessment for learning and learner-centred approach. I hope you find it useful.
Hello everyone!
This is an article that talks about a very interesting evaluation technique, the self-assessment. Self-assessment provides information about student achievement that corresponds only in part to the information generated by teacher assessment; self-assessment contributes to higher student achievement and improved behavior.
This document emphasizes that self-assessment is a key strategy to involve students in taking more responsibility for their own learning. Perhaps the biggest drawback is that it requires greater involvement by the teacher.
On the other hand, teachers use self-assessment because it has distinctive features that warrant its use, also, it is more cost-effective than other techniques and students learn more when they know that they will share responsibility for the assessment of what they have learned.
Also, self-assessment is a technique that it is necessary training and throughout the article, we can learn how making self-assessment more useful and if it is a reliable technique.
To sum up, I believe that "self-assessment is a strategy that helps students to become aware of their learning progress and also helps the teacher to understand what the teaching is and learning process performed by the learner, concerning to the difficulties involved, the objectives achieved, etc. And above all, promotes the development of autonomy, self-discipline and self-control by students".
I hope you like it!
Hi Julia, I completely agree with you, self-evaluation is necessary in the school because it involves the student in a more active role in their learning process. Self-evaluation is also very useful for the teacher, it is a good way to improve their teaching.
I'm also agree!
The traditional paper-and-pencil tests no longer cover the variety of activities that should take place in a classroom. In this case, tasks which provide to the learners be aware of their abilities, weaknesses and strengths. So, thanks for sharing it! :)

Hi mates! This link it's a website related to Classroom Management. Inside the link you can find a lot of activities that can help you with your own management. I think that it would be interesting that you take a look! Enjoy!
Visual aids and movements help kids memorize letter combinations and their sounds. In this page you can find free downloads (two PDFs) about lyrics and movements that you can use for phonics.
I advice you visit Heidi´s blog, it´s quite interesting, it shows you a good example with the general steps that you could follow in order to get your students to read words with the "sh" and "th" sounds in them.
Some information about this method:
Sounds Fun Phonics is a system of teaching phonics through music, movement, and a set of unique flashcards that give the children a visual and kinesthetic cue to help them easily remember and produce each sound. The music serves to reinforce these basic phonics rules and sound spelling patterns, so that they can learn to read, write, and spell quickly and easily.
I have this app in my iPad. It has a lot of stories but just one story ("the dog") is free. It´s quite interesting, for example, on the first story you work with the words: s, a, t, p, i , n, m, d. while you´re reading the story there is an audio which is telling you the story. During the story, the child can colour and move objects. After the reading there is a little test about the characters, the actions, etc you can get points! It´s a really shame that the other stories aren´t free.
Look what i found! It´s a primary languages forum! It´s an email discussion list for primary teachers or anyone interested in primary languages. It is a place for discussion, peer support and sharing ideas and information.
I´m my opinion is pretty complete. Email discussion lists enable a community of registered users to send and receive messages to each other by email. All contributions related to primary languages teaching and learning are welcomed. Typical topics include using ICT, cross-curricular approaches, curriculum planning, feedback on useful resources, primary languages policy and staff development.

This is a web in which you can create digital posters. I think that it can be very useful because it gives you a lot of different oportunities to teach english.
Firstly you can use a lot of different pictures about the topic that you are going to teach.
Secondly you can record your own voice or a video with your webcam, so you can practice listening comprehension with your students.
Thirdly you can add videos or audios from another webs related to the topic.
Finally children can create a digital poster about a topic that they like it.
Here you are two tutorials to learn how to use glogstet:
- English tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80NISdsoouE&feature=channel_page
- Spanish tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_TSNAuwWzq8
I also had seen this resource before.
A fun and different way to introduce any topic you want using skills such as the creativity.
Thank you for sharing it! :)
I didn't remember it since the last time I used it.
Thank you Gonzalo! I think it's very interesting the link you have left. As you I've found a page that could be interesting, especially for children an evenmore when they are learning new vocabulary.
This resource it's called freemind. I let the link, to have more information about it.
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
It allows you to create a mind-map.
You can insert an image of the topic you are teaching.
It's eassy to use.
You can't add audios or videos, which is a drawback, but if we want a more complete resource Gonzalo has offered us one which have all this complement.
I let a tutorial in the case you want to start using it:
-English tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsiwD4NMR68
-Spanish tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRiiVFb9OJs
Hi Gonzalo! I find very useful this tool because we can create and share digital posters and produce intrinsic motivation.
Besides, we can teach students to use this resource, so in this manner they will be autonomous and responsible of their own learning (learner-centred approach). Moreover, learners can work with this tool in order to develop their creativity.
Above all, this digital poster is more interesting than the typical ones and also you can add videos or music in them. I think that it is a different way to use technologies in class.
Thank you so much for sharing it!:)
