This article discusses the debt problems in Africa, and how these could potentially be solved. It explains how the loans were misused through issues such as corruption, and then it explains how African economies could still potentially manage to pay them off, through getting involved more in the global community

China to invest $20bn in struggling Venezuela - 0 views

  •
This article is about China's FDI into Venezuela. Because of the recent drop in oil prices, Venezuela is suffering so China is placing FDIs in deals that include technology, housing and urban planning. The hope here is to develop a relationship between the two nations, but as we have seen in class it might not be truly beneficial to the LEDC.

  •
This article is about an export-promotion strategy the government is going to follow to promote the telecom sector. Increases in the revenue from this sector are expected, and I found the article very interesting since India is one of the developing countries developing at the fastests rates.

India Ranks 135 in Human Development Index: Report - 0 views

  •
This article is really nice as it gives HDI, GII and GDI information about India. Additionally, it states how India has had progress in the 3 components of HDI over the years, but that it still has a relatively low ranking in HDI. This shows that the whole of the world is then slowly improving on HDI levels.

The Role of Central Bank in a Developing Economy of a Country - 0 views

  •
Fair enough, this is not the classic article we usually post here. Nonetheless, I found it to be an article that emphasises the role of central bank, a little bit like a mini notebook. It connects central bank to economic development well and explains what are possibilities of policies for the central bank.

This article really looks into how a monetary union can work when it is so divided, and it goes on to say that the political ties are what enables it to thrive without major disturbances. It also mentions how important these ties are for the central bank and monetary policy of the bloc to work

East African trade bloc approves monetary union deal - 0 views

  •
This article discusses the possibility of a further step in the trade liberalisation of East Africa. The EAC (already a common market) now wants to go further and create an economic and monetary union within 10 years. This would greatly help the trading in that region.

  •
Thus article, although short, gives precise numbers on France's current account deficit. It illustrates with numbers the size that a current account can be, and how in France it is currently being reduced, which is another proof of the recovery Europe is having.

U.K. Balance of Payments Worsens - 0 views

  •
The article talks about how Britain is facing a deficit balance of payments. The state of the world's economy means that exports are not bringing in the country as much money as is needed, and British firms' earnings abroad are not a lot either. As a result, Britain is facing a problem, which can be solved by trying to incentivise exports (as the article discusses).

UK industry export orders hit euro headwinds - 3 views

  •
This article talks about the loss of faith there is in the Euro currently because of the conflict with Ukraine and Russia, and how that negatively impacts the UK because its main export zone is Europe. Also, it mentions that the pound is strong when maybe it would be better if the pound was weak, so that refers back to our debate of "Is it better to have a strong or weak currency?"

Pound falls on Bank meeting minutes - 2 views

  •
This article presents how a report done by the Monetary Policy Committee of the UK has lead to the value of the pound falling slightly against the dollar. This shows how the direct action of a central bank (here refusing to increase the interest rate) can impact the exchange rate.

Africa's Free Trade Hangover - 2 views

  •
After 30 years in which the virtues of the free market went largely unchallenged, a quiet revolution is making its way across Africa. Many governments are increasingly ready to toss out the orthodoxy and rethink the importance of the role of the state in national development. The article also discusses the negatives of free trade

Supply side economic policies would end the Obama Depression - 4 views

  •
This article evaluate fiscal and monetary policy in reference to a real world example, and go over the benefits of supply-side policy. It suggests another course of action for the US government, one where supply-side policy would be emphasised rather than any demand-side policy, because the author states that the economic stagnation is not a demand-side problem. Easy article that evaluates policies in a clear way.
