שר האנרגיה והמים, ד"ר עוזי לנדאו בכנס באתונה: "טבעי כי הייצוא המיידי של גז טבעי -יהיה לשכנינו הפלשתינאים ולירדנים ואני מאמין שהקשר הזה יכול להיות נדבך חשוב ליצירת אמון ולשלום באזור" שר האנרגיה והמים, ד"ר עוזי לנדאו, משתתף היום באתונה בכנס של השבועון Economist העוסק באתגרי האנרגיה האירופיים. השר לנדאו נשא דברים במעמד הפתיחה, בו לקחו חלק גם שרי האנרגיה והסביבה מיוון ומקפריסין. בהמשך יתקיים דיון פתוח על אתגרים גלובאליים ובעיות שחולקות מדינות האזור.   בראשית דבריו איחל השר לנדאו הצלחה בחיפושי הגז הטבעי המתבצעים בתקופה זו בקפריסין ומתחילים בחודש הבא ביוון. "ההצלחה שלכם היא ההצלחה של האזור". אמר השר וציין כי מומחים מעריכים שבמזרח התיכון יש כמויות גז טבעי נכבדות ביותר. השר דיבר על האתגרים שמציבים הגילויים בפני המשק והכלכלה הישראלים. "משק האנרגיה צפוי לעבור לשימוש נרחב ביותר בגז טבעי, נפתח את השימוש בגז טבעי ובמוצריו כמו מתנול, לתחבורה. באופן שיאפשר להשתחרר ככל הניתן מהתלות בנפט הערבי".   "הייצוא המיידי שאנחנו יכולים לחשוב עליו הוא לפלשתינאים ולירדנים, אנו מאמינים כי שימוש בגז הטבעי הישראלי עבור השכנים, ייצור אמון שיוכל לקדם את השלום באזור" אמר.   בסיכום דבריו אמר השר: "אנו מאמינים באמונה עמוקה, כי ההתפת�

מידע בנוגע להשלכות הסביבתיות של עיבוד חולות הזפת לנפט: " according to Peter Tertzakian, the chief energy economist at ARC Financial Corporation, the EROEI for tar sands amounts to 7:1 for extraction and drops to 3:1 after it has been upgraded and refined into something useful, such as gasoline. The process of making liquid fuels from oil sands requires abundant energy from beginning to end, extraction to refining. The entire process generates two to four times the amount of greenhouse gases per barrel of final product as the production of conventional oil. Ultimately, squeezing oil out of tar sand is an extremely wasteful process, requiring between two and four tons of tar sand and two to four barrels of water to produce a single barrel of oil. The current level of water consumption is enough to sustain a city of two million people every year, according to an analysis by Energy & Capital. And after the water has gone through the entire process, it is so toxic with contaminants that it cannot be released into the environment. "

The oil market will return to surplus in 2011  - Economist Intiligence Unit December 14th 2011 Global crude oil production growth is estimated to slow to 1.7% in 2011, largely reflecting the loss of Libyan supply, but also production problems in the North Sea, Angola, Yemen and Azerbaijan. (Global output rose by 2.1%, or 1.8m barrels/day, in 2010.) These losses were offset by increased OPEC production, particularly from Saudi Arabia, where output reached a 30-year high in August of 9.8m b/d. Production from Iraq is also growing strongly and this will continue in 2012, as will the gradual return of Libyan output. Reflecting these trends, we expect OPEC output to grow by a brisk 6.8% in 2012, before slowing to a still-healthy 4.1% growth rate in 2013. Non-OPEC production growth will be sluggish, at around 1% a year in 2012-13, with falling production from the North Sea and Mexico partly offsetting gains elsewhere. One area of non-OPEC strength will be the production of unconventional oil in North America-the tar sands in Canada and shale oil in the US. Further out, OPEC's capacity will be boosted by the coming on stream of the massive-900,000 b/d-Manifa field in Saudi Arabia, and by rising production in Nigeria, Angola, Algeria and Qatar. However, towards the end of the forecast period, we expect a greater contribution from non-OPEC output, particularly from Brazil and some Caspian producers.
