Christopher Nolan is one of those directors who can never go wrong with the subject at hand. But even the greatest people have their own sources of inspiration. Nolan recently unveiled a list of 30 films he loves and watches for inspiration to IndieWire. The list contains some pretty impressive movies including popular ones like 2001: A Space Odyssey and offbeat films like Koyaanisqatsi.

In 1956, Bob Kane and Sheldon Moldoff decided Batman and Robin both needed female counterparts in order to stave off the gay rumors about these characters and voila Batwoman appeared, aka Kathy Kane (issue #233 in Detective Comics) for Batman and then in 1961 Batgirl, aka Betty Kane (issue #139 in the Batman comics) appeared as a sidekick for Batwoman. When Julius Swartz took over as editor both of these Batwoman and Batgirl characters were taken out and were replaced in 1967 by the Barbara Gordon 'Batgirl' (issue #359 in Detective Comics). Halloween is the one night of the year when you get to dress up and be someone else. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of the year. The Riddler was more of a smooth talker with a quirky nature who was obsessed with sending riddles to Batman and the police before each of his crimes. This Super Villain was designed by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and was inspired by the Kool cigarettes mascot, a penguin with a top hat and cane. When the Penguin first came out, he was to be more of a "gentlemen thief" as opposed to psychotic like the rest of Batman's bad guys. There was also times when he tried to make it look like he was trying to go legit and help Batman instead of fighting him. But it never lasted.

In the 1960s, Catwoman's catsuit was green in color, which was typical of villains of that era. In the 1990s, she usually wore a skintight purple catsuit, before switching to a black PVC catsuit that recalls Michelle Pfeiffer's costume in Batman Returns. In recent years, artists depictions have usually alternated between those two costumes. Ed Brubaker, the writer behind the 2001 revamp of the character, has stated that Selina's current costume was inspired by Emma Peel's iconic leather catsuit in The Avengers TV series. It has a more high tech look, with domino-shaped infrared goggles on her cowl.
