One of our prime hiking destinations for the week was a climb up 10,566-foot Avalanche Peak, located about eight miles from the park's east entrance. We put this hike at the top of our itinerary because it's one of the higher peaks in Yellowstone, and it didn't require any technical skills to reach the summit.\n

"Are we out of this godforsaken Boulder Field yet?" The famous trek to the Key Hole on Longs Peak requires a difficult slog through the Boulder Field, a rugged section of "trail", roughly 2/3 of a mile in length and climbs about 800 feet. The incredible views on the other side makes it all worth it, as you can see by the pictures.

With nearly 360 miles of trails, Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado is an absolute hiker's paradise. Trails range from flat lakeside strolls to steep mountain peak climbs. Over the next week or so I will be posting hike reports from my recent trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. Each report will include highlights and photographs from each hike, including the Keyhole Route on Longs Peak, Sky Pond, and the Wild Basin area, among other stunningly beautiful hikes. Make plans now to see the world famous flame azaleas at the summit of Gregory Bald in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The spectacular display of wildflowers usually peak during the mid-to-late June time period. The hike to Gregory Bald is a roundtrip of 11.3 miles and a climb of more than 3000 feet, but is well worth the effort.
