Scientifi to Decimal Conversions - 0 views

Another activity on the same website as the previous posted one. Instead of working with operations with scientific notation, students can practice converting between standard notation and scientific notation.
  • to have the computer give you a mix of problems
    • Celeste Sisson

Like this option as some students tend to mix up rules when different problems are placed together. This will emphasize paying attention to details of the questions and having the students ask them self how to approach the problem.

  • Enter your answer using the keyboard. Press the 'x' key, and the computer will recognize that you now wish to enter the exponent of a number in scientific format. If you make a mistake, you can correct it using the backspace key.

Linear Functions Lab - 0 views

This is a lab activity that I can use in my course to introduce students to linear functions. At this time, I am contemplating whether to use it as an in-class activity or having it that the place of a video for a lecture and become a lesson that is discovery for students to use on their own.
    • Celeste Sisson

This is the concern for using it as an online lesson. This requires the use of Java and it could be an app that students do not have on their computer at home as I had complications with it at first.

Pink Highlighter - Students would not have a graphing calculator and I would not want them using one online.

Although I'm not sure what research or theory this is based off of, I think this could be an interesting discussion prompt. I think it may help students to "Dig deeper" into what reflection is and how it can help students in their learning

Scientifi to Decimal Conversions - 0 views

This is a good activity for students to practice the learning objectives for my module containing scientific notation. With this students will be given random problems to solve.
  • Using the keyboard, enter your answer in scientific format, with one non zero digit before the decimal point (for example 65.3 x 107 should be written as 6.53 x 108). Press the 'x' key, and the computer will recognize that you now wish to enter the exponent of a number in scientific format. If you make a mistake, you can correct it using the backspace key.
    • Celeste Sisson

These directions are perfect at explaining how students will need to enter their answer it which if not noted would have been an issue for some students.

      great! i agree!

I think this is an awesome find Maree. However it would be nice if this resource was built with next buttons to proceed to the next reading rather than back buttons. Do you agree? Thank you for clearly stating how you would use this in your online course.

Coloring Multiples in Pascal's Triangle - 0 views

  •
I will use this learning activity when going over exponents with a binomial. The reason this is is because a binomial follows the Pascals Triangle. When associating the two you can help students to better develop multiplying binomials. This will not be in any of my modules but it will be used later in the year.

This article could be helpful to my students in the "Documenting the learning" module. However, I don't know if I will use it because I don't want to confine them to eportfolios. There are other ways to document what you have learned, for example - blog, wiki, webpage, presentation, etc.

This is an amazing resource on defining behavior. It is so helpful in understanding the function of behavior in students with ASD. There is a great podcast titled Marshall Lev Dermer-Defining Behavior. The podcast downloaded to my ITunes, so I wasn't able to bookmark it. This is an amazing resource for me!! Defining

Hi Heather this seems like a great resource for you. I can't wait to see how you use it in your course. Do you plan on placing the entire podcast in the course or are you going to use parts of it? Diana

Such a great summary of an Autism Classroom. The acknowledgement of individuality is so important.
  •
Great video, thanks for posting this Heather! Teachers who teach children with autism have such incredible challenges, this program look extremely promising. The two things that stood out in the video for me were, "make learning fun, and adapt instructions to each individual child."
