    Suggestion

    Spun off from Next phase Diigo - the future

    In the screen shot below, there's a large red ring around a fuzzy area within the Services menu:

    In the ringed area, imagine services such as:

    * Add to lists (Diigo)
    * All annotations (Diigo)
    * Bookmark (Diigo)
    * Copy bookmark to groups (Diigo)
    * Get annotated link (Diigo)
    * Read later (Diigo)
    * Save WebArchive of linked file (Diigo)
    * Send (Diigo)

    Think beyond the browser! From any application that presents a hyperlink we should be able to access these Diigo services, and more :-)

    http://www.wuala.com/grahamperrin/public/2009/06/25/services/ for a broader impression of what's possible with System Services.

    Incidentally, in those examples there's some overlap between Services and the platform-independent WebArchive format. http://www.wuala.com/grahamperrin/public/2009/06/25/webarchive/ for a glimpse of how applications pass data to and fro in this format, http://www.diigo.com/list/grahamperrin/webarchive?v=p for work in progress.

    Notes

    This is thinking for a mid- to long-term future. Not a priority suggestion.

    System Services have been around since 2002.

    Mac OS X 10.6 (forthcoming, around September 2009) offers significant improvements to System Services, including a Services submenu to the contextual menu.

    If you want Services in a submenu (and more) in Mac OS X 10.5.x or earlier, I recommend ICeCoffEE.
