Screen shots at http://www.wuala.com/Diigo-4/966280 show home pages of two groups: one that's currently bookmark-rich, another that's currently topic-rich.
Standard view (three-way switch in its middle position), but extended to 100 items per page to exaggerate the river of information.
In the group that has a majority of bookmarks:
* from a distance, it's not easy to recognise a topic
In the group that has a majority of topics:
* from a distance, it is fairly easy to recognise a bookmark - if that bookmark has comments or highlights.
In any case, the options Filter: All | Bookmarks | Topics are close to paramount, so it's easy to zoom in on as little or as much as you like. Still, I'd like bookmarks to be more easily recognisable. Maybe, set the icon upright. To my eyes, setting it at an angle doesn't make it look any more like a book.
And the colour of both icons — blue — causes them to be lost within the sea of blue.
* maybe a little larger
* more distinct.
