I suspect that an excess of blue causes some features of Diigo to be overlooked.
Blue, nearly everywhere.
Diigo aside: the colour blue is commonly associated with hyperlinks.
In Diigo:
√ most hyperlinks are blue
- the blue surroundings are sometimes overwhelming
x some hyperlinks, tabs and menus are grey
Critically: the grey (think: greyed out) effectively reduces attention on features.
I'm not suggesting a rainbow of colours, or monotone, but for _non-reactive_ elements of the UI: something closer to duotone may be preferable.
For example: as I compose this message, there's no need for the border to be blue.†
_Active_ elements - anything on which the user can click - should be blue. Probably no more than two shades of blue.
IMHO the use of colours _other_ than blue - for distinction - is most useful when highlights, comments and sticky notes are shown. At a glance, the current use of subtle green borders (to highlighted text boxes) and subtle orange borders (to sticky note text boxes) is on the right track :)
Best regards Graham
† There's nothing wrong with the colour blue, in itself, but I see an ocean of blue in which active features are somewhat lost…
