A direct link will tell google and other link-based search engines more about the popularity of the target page (increase its PageRank )
currently, when pressing on a bookmark in diigo, you are taken to a redirect page on diigo, that sends you to the target webpage.
so google has no indication if this webpage was saved by a single diigo user, or by 1000 diigo users, and thus, the PageRank score is not affected, and on a wider aspect, the actual importance of this webpage is lost.
On the other hand, if there's a direct link from each of the 1000 diigo users that saves it, it will be easily reflected in the target webpage's google position.
You can implement it in a few ways: 1. adding a "direct link" button , that is easily accessible to both people and search bots 2. adding an invisible link , that is only accessible and viewable by search engines (be careful with this feature) 3. changing the main link to a direct link. (you can still track outgoing links with javascript)
[ Note: I'm aware that the "about" page DOES link directly to the target webpage, but it still doesn't reflect the link's popularity among D-goers, since it's the same "about" page regardless of the number of diigo users that saved it ]
