This comprehensive resource will tell you everything you need to know about plagiarism, from the basic facts to free detection tools to preventing it in both the physical and online classroom.

Thematic unit on digital citizenship for students in middle school aged 10-14. For this unit we have broken it into two weeks. Week one will be on plagiarism, copyright, and creative commons. Week two will be on online etiquette and cyberbullying. The students will learn about each theme over a course of days. After the two themes have been examined, students will complete a final project related to the goals.

A free-to-play "alternate reality game" from the UK commissioned by Channel 4 Education that is intended to give teenage players a personal encounter with everything from identity theft to cyber stalking. Kids (age 14-16) explore websites, search for clues, receive phone calls, chat on IM, and tackle puzzles and mini-games. Through thirteen challenges, (each lasting 10-20 minutes) and a dramatic storyline, they find out who they can trust and who they can't.

This is why I don't share the photos of my children online in public places. After one pic of a child at school was favorited in this way, I took the pic down and am ridiculously vigilant about checking to see how many photos have been favorited and which ones to see if there is one that some sicko has looked at. This is an article I'm going to share with my digiteen dream team! It is an important one to share!

In January 2009, Alex Couros received an email notice saying that a few of his Flickr photos had been favorited. These particular photos were of his children, mostly of his daughter. Every time this happens, he goes to see who the Flickr user is, and most of the time, it is a family member, a close friend, or someone he know through Twitter (or other social network). He did not recognize the user in this particular case, and when he went to see their photos, the Flickr message alerted him that none of the user's photos were available. Seeing as his photos had been favorited, he went to see what other photos had been marked as favorites by this user.

Students have always gossiped and complained about their teachers. But in cyberspace such behaviour can take on a life of its own. Cases of cyberbullying are opportunities to teach about responsibilities, consequences and healthy relationships. Employers are starting to check prospective employees' online habits: your resumé is one thing, but what kind of person are you online? We all leave digital footprints.
