A similar contest could be held at school, in a district or county as part of cybersafety or digital literacy curriculum. This particular contest was connected with Hispanic Heritage Month.

National Geographic, Airbus, and ePals have partnered to raise awareness of biodiversity worldwide, especially among young people. A major component of this effort is a summer photo contest for students age 6-16, called "See the Bigger Picture". Students can submit digital photos online or via mailed electronic media until September 8th. The contest is open to kids aged between 6 and 16.

Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary. Background info from Marvin Jiminez, Director. I decided to enter the Contest for two reasons. First, being one of the poorest school districts in the city, I felt our students would greatly appreciate the software prizes to use in sharing their stories in a visual manner. Second, this project would be my directorial debut. I really enjoyed directing this project and seeing it come to life from an idea to film. The students who volunteered as talent really did an exceptional job and were very fun to direct. The project itself took approx. 20 pre-production hours, 6 production hours, and 8 post-production hours. The title I decided to use is "Words Sometimes Really Do Hurt".

We're starting a video contest -- nominate the videos that you think best advocate digital citizenship, safety or success in schools. We plan to have some surveys in the future to let you vote.

For Canadian students (from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada). Create your own public service announcement on the issue of privacy. You can record it, animate it - present it however you want. And as long as the focus is on some aspect of personal privacy you can make it about whatever you want.

Background info from Josh Borugeois. "I wanted to try and create something that would stick out on a very low budget. I got the light bulb idea from "The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." I thought it created sort of an "all alone in someone's head feeling". I wrote the dialog thinking of some of the things teenagers would never say, or never think. I believe there are lot of messed up people online looking to prey on clueless individuals. I thought if I could create a spot that made teenagers being careful look like the cool thing to do, then maybe some would try it. Teenagers like to see a peer taking control of a situation. This generation is all about owning decisions."

The challenge for many college administrators today is how can they put cell phones to work for both students and the college. In Palo Alto, Calif., home of Stanford University, developers of an iPhone application called iStanford 2.0 hopes one day to see the iPhone replace the campus ID card. The entrepreneurial Stanford students have already produced a suite of iPhone applications that access the university's course catalog, campus map and other resources.The application suite was rolled out in October and has already garnered national attention, including winning the $10,000 grand prize for AT&T's "Big Mobile on Campus" contest for best smart phone application. One of the student members of the firm said he hopes to see the iPhone replace student identification cards in the future.

I call Ugly Christmas Sweatshirt a garment, rather than a sweater because that's what it is… as many reviewers have mentioned. It has the texture and thickness of a heavy t-shirt. Therefore I was neither shocked nor displeased that it wasn't a "sweater". Also, many reviewers suggested ordering a size large, since they come small. I didn't have that issue. I am large, I ordered an XL… and it was too big. That was my fault; I kept the shirt and wore it over a plain sweater. Viola! An ugly sweater that fits. Yes, I won the ugly sweater contest… much to the embarrassment of my wife. I consider that a bonus. So in conclusion, I have no problem with the item, nor the vendor. An assistant professor in Northwestern University's sociology department, has discovered that students aren't nearly as Web-savvy as they, or their elders, assume. Ms. Hargittai studies the technological fluency of college freshmen. She found that they lack a basic understanding of such terms as BCC (blind copy on e-mail), podcasting, and phishing. This spring she will start a national poster-and-video contest to promote Web-related skills.

The National Campaign to Prevent Teen & Unplanned Pregnancy, a private nonprofit group whose mission is to protect children, and CosmoGirl.com, surveyed nearly 1,300 teens about sex and technology. The result: 1 in 5 teens say they've sexted even though the majority know it could be a crime.
