iPhone version 4.0 is official! It's got all the goodies, multi-tasking, background GPS, background audio streaming (Pandora), background VOIP calls and even iBooks (thanks iPad). Apple has announced the upgrade but won't make it available to all the iPhone 3GS/iPod Touch 3rd Gen users out there until sometime this summer. iPad will get the update in the Fall. Original iPhone and iPhone 3G users along with iPod Touch 1st/2nd Gen will get some features but not the multitasking (booooo). That's too bad for owners of older hardware but Apple has to cut them loose at some point to move forward.

Apple just released a new version of iOS. What new goodies await inside the 400-megabyte package? Not much, as far as this writer can tell. Apple iOS v4.2.6 squashes a bug in the Personal Hotspot feature included with the freshly released Verizon iPhone. And that's about it, according Apple's infamously illustrative release notes.

A judge has apparently unsealed an affidavit related to Gizmodo's iPhone leak last month, and the details that are coming out are entirely interesting. The documents - in essence - prove that Apple was behind the entire police investigation that ultimately led to the raid of Gizmodo editor Jason Chen's home, which is something that many of us knew or at least susptected already.
