We got a tip from Anthony Avolio yesterday, who pointed out that Google was showing ads on Maps on the iPhone. Until then I hadn't noticed it. This is another way in which Google seems to be aligning the mobile experience with that on the PC.
Griffin Technology, the creative leader in accessories for iPhone, iPod, Mac and PC, have introduced the latest version of its popular iTalk recorder app for iPhone and iPod touch.
The iPhone 3GS is hot according to AT&T. No, I'm not talking about the overheating issues, but a alleged leaked memo from the iPhone's exclusive U.S. carrier. In the memo, AT&T reports the iPhone 3GS launch day on June 6 was the best-ever sales day for AT&T retail stores, according to MacDaily News.
During my last trip to NYC I met one of the guys behind Mobile Roadie in Williamsburg, and was quite impressed with the app. Basically it allows any band to generate an iPhone app for their band, get it up on the app store, and continually update the app's content with minimal effort.
You're probably already stuffed with iPhone rumors, but consider this dessert. Daring Fireball's John Gruber has heard from "informed sources" that the next-generation iPhone will receive a significant processor upgrade, bumping the speed to 600MHz, which should make the new handset 1.5 times as fast as the current 400MHz iPhone CPU.
The iPhone has become something of a haven for remixed or ported classics like Galaga and Myst. Dig Dug is the latest to get the remix treatment, bringing all the content of the original and a little more to the app store.
Talks between Apple and Verizon have been in the press for several days now, but recent reporting suggests the two may be discussing a pared-down version of the Apple iPhone and an Amazon Kindle-like "media pad," for release as earlier as this summer. But does Apple need the hassle of CDMA?
The release of the Skype app for iPhone has been well received. In just two days after the release, the application had been downloaded more than one million times.
Reader Dan says he was walking home last night and got robbed at gunpoint, losing his iPhone, which he only got five days ago, in the process. He asks, "Any tips from you or readers? Can it be tracked using the onboard gps? This STINKS!"
Rumour has it Apple will open up the iPhone App Store to games costing around $19.99, but only for big name publishers, like GameLoft and EA. Such a price point would end up competing with Nintendo DS and lower-end PSP titles.
There are a few apps in the iTunes App Store that let iPhone and iPod touch users share data and even play games against each other over the Internet. PosiMotion even makes a few. But the developer has gone the extra mile to create hardware to help users within range of each other share and play to their hearts content.
People still speculate that Apple will release a netbook. I think this is more from hope rather than evidence-supported speculation - currently, anyway, Apple's position is that the iPhone and iPod touch are both functionally netbooks already.
Last week, I took a look at the application for the iPhone made for the social voting site Reddit. Appropriately called 'reddit," though not an official app, it does a nice job of showcasing and giving you access to the most popular stories on Reddit at any given time. One feature it did not have however, was the ability to vote on stories. A new app, Satellite, another application built for Reddit, set to be released shortly, brings this feature.
If I was to choose one of the best accessories for the Apple iPhone 3G, then it would have to be this Silicon Touch iPhone case from Yanko Design. This accessory makes using the Apple iPhone 3G much easier for the visually impaired.
