Find correspondence between Reagan and Soviet leaders as well as a draft of the speech Reagan delivered at the Berlin Wall. These are some of the primary sources available at the site. There is also a whole unit on Reagan and the Cold War as well as other events that took place during his presidency. High school students in history classes would benefit most from this site.

This site explains the laws in Nebraska related to employment and unemployment. Designed to assist employers as well as workers, this site also provides access to online application for unemployment benefits.

Nebraska Dept of Labor is an important reference for employers and employees. Students would be encouraged to look through this site for pages that related to them, including potential job listings. As part of their vocational preparation, this site offers a plethora of resources for workers and future workers. Additionally, it would be recommended that the students research when and how they can access unemployment benefits through this site.

This is so amazing and moving. There are links to various types of artifacts concerning 9/11. There are audio recordings of people who have lost loved ones or who lived in the area and all types of things. I think this would be a great way to bring 9/11 alive for students. By listening to what life was like before and how it felt after 9/11.

Not only does this site have primary sources in text, audio, video, and images, but also, silent movies, archived web pages, historical software, and animation/cartoons. Grades 1-12 could easily find interesting primary sources for their projects. Students will enjoy an occasional old cartoon, like Why We Have Elections, that teaches about the election process, and can be taught about primary sources, too.

On this site you can listen to a variety of audio clips.  I enjoyed the section on voices of presidents.  It would be fun for students to hear their voices instead of always reading a transcript of it.  

National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's photo library is a primary source for ocean and nature photographs. It is arranged by topic collections. Some of my favorites include: National Severe Storms Laboratory Collection (severe weather), It's a Small World Collection (around the world in alphabetical order), and Coral Kingdom Collection (vertebrates/invertebrates,plants). Excellent examples are provided for use with student lessons (i.e. coral kingdom for living vs. nonliving organisms) as well as student research materials.

The ipl2 website not only allows its users to access both national and international newspapers and magazines online, but it also provides its users quick and simple ways to search for materials with the click of a mouse (i.e.) for kids or teens, resources by subject, or special collections created by ipl2. The site permits researchers to search specific categories such as: art and humanities, education, law, government and political science, as well special collections for presidents and literary criticisms. The site offers a unique 24 hour a day help desk, where students and volunteer library and information science professionals provide answers to your questions via email.

The museum of Edgar Allan Poe collection database includes primary source documents such as letters, photos, and personal/family items. This is a good literary resource for middle and high school students-complete with teacher and student resources. Great opportunity for English/Language Arts department and library collaboration.

This section of America's Story helps learners gain a brief insight into each state.  There is a summary of how the state entered statehood, as well as some key information.  The image that appears when a state is clicked on is the state flag, state capital, state flower, and another image associated with the state.  There are also links to other stories about the state at the bottom and on the side of the page.  Students begin learning about their own state in 4th grade and more of the country in 5th grade.  This site provides a good overview of the state with primary source images and documents.

This section of America's Story focuses on the Amazing Americans who have helped shape American History.  The people are categorized by their profession or what made them famous.  The biographical information for each person provides an great summary of why they were important, links to more stories, photos, and even a timeline of their life in relation to what was happening in America.  Students begin to learn about specific people in our nation's history in 3rd and 4th grade.  This site would lend itself to exploring more information about these people from the trusted source of the Library of Congress.

This site provides a fun and interactive way for students to look at statistical information from the US government. It would help students with map skills and being able to read mathematical information (mean, median etc.) from a graph. There are links included for teachers and parents along with a link to "grown up stats" that links you to fedstats.gov.

The National Gallery of Art (NGA) website provide a unique resource page to connect art and other areas of curriculum. The resources finder allows you to search by curriculum, topic, or artist. These searches provide you with student activities, teacher lesson plans, biographies, and the artwork to accompany them. The NGA has a loan program available.

The United States Census Bureau provides population, economic, and geographic resources. This site would benefit students and educators in social studies, mathematics, economics, and geography. Interesting features include comparisons among resources and the U.S./World population clocks. There are various methods of accessing information (by state, region, use of data tools, etc.).

The Holocaust Memorial Center has facinating primary resources which include oral testimonies, art, and photos. This resource provides powerful personal connections between the artifacts and the researcher. Materials would be appropriate for students in grades 6-12 studying the holocaust, history, or comparison/contrast with global current events involving genocide . Educator and student resources are available.

National History Day offers primary sources for world history. Students and educators from 5-12 grade can use this site to find information on many regions around the world. Teachers can use the Classroom Connection section to find information that fits into their standards, a repository can be used to find primary resources for specific regions and time periods.

NBC Learn provides a wealth of videos, primary source documents, and overall media from the past 80 years and now.  The content is divided into K-12 and Higher Ed.  It is a paid resource, but there is free content available.  This could easily be utilized in the classroom and help make newsworthy events of our past real for students today.

This is the teacher site of the Library of Congress. Here you can locate primary sources by topic sets, topic, state, and theme. You can also access their web guide which contains extensive online resources for teachers and students of individuals, events, eras, and historical documents. This site is also a portal to using, citing, teaching, and analyzing primary sources, finding classroom materials to match state standards, lesson plans, activities, news & events, professional development, FAQs, and additional resources, like slide shows and handouts from past Library of Congress events.

This is designed for emergent readers to research animals. Students can visually search topics. Text is fully narrated. Worksheets avalible for student to share the interesting fact that they have learned.
