    "However, the current focus on initial teacher education as the be-all and end-all of teacher education ignores the importance of ongoing professional development. This should take place not only in the first years of teaching, but throughout teachers' careers. As a comparison, medicine graduates study at university for five or six years, then still need to undertake an internship of one year before being allowed to register for general practice. Most go on to undertake a further two to three years of residency before beginning specialist training. Perhaps we should be taking our cue from medicine, and treating our graduate teachers in a similar manner to medical interns and residents. Learning to teach is a process that begins at universities, but continues for an entire career."

      It is incredibly important that it be UNIVERSAL. To have only wealthy schools reaping the benefits of these 'critical tools' would not at all be equitable - something the Government and everyday Australians are striving for.

      There's nothing worse than being in a classroom that isn't equipped with the technology you normally use. It would definitely be beneficial to ensure portable/emergency classrooms were well equipped.

      that is so true! so many times when I was on rounds (even in the normal classroom) it was so hard to do what I wanted to do because there was not enough technology available to me!

      I find it particularly hard as student teachers because we don't have access (necessarily) to all the computers and we don't always know what's available to us (although - some teachers don't know this either)

    "If you do a Google search about how much information Google really controls, there's a little bit of hyperbole (from users) out there. There's a litany of searches like 'Google wants to own your mind', 'Google wants to control you'. There's also a 'Google wants to teach computers regret' which is just creepy, really. Those living in fear of a barcode on their psyche have been prolific with their concerns, no doubt about it. But they're not totally barking up the wrong tree. Just ask Google. Its own mission statement says this: "Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." Luckily, its motto is 'don't be evil'. Right guys?"
