"Over the last few months, Facebook has launched several initiatives and features to help you keep your account and data secure. Back in May, the company revealed it was switching over to the secure HTTPS protocol and announced details of its login approvals feature. Facebook has also teamed up with Web of Trust to help protect you from scam websites and recently added its social reporting tool to its mobile website. In addition, the company has launched a bug bounty program that rewards security researchers for finding flaws in the social network's security systems. To help you understand the social network's security features and how to protect your account, a Guide To Facebook Security has been launched. The guide, which you can download from Facebook, is 14 pages long and offers all kinds of tips on how to protect your account, including how to spot and avoid scam apps and clickjacking."

This is a great article. I never thought about fraud or being hacked on the internet, until I uploaded a picture of my working with children check for in the Northern Territory onto Facebook. Straight away, my mum called me and told me to take it off! even though my Facebook is set to private, she made me realise that anyone can still find it and use it! I've always been one to be super careful of these things and now am even more careful when I hear about people's email passwords and Facebook passwords being changed without them knowing! I think if my students were to have online accounts such as blogs etc. I would make sure they had them all set onto private so that they can't get hacked, especially of their identity.

Social Media has fast become part of many people's every day lives. With so much new technology being introduced today, there are many benefits and reasons for students to be using social media on a daily basis. Social Networks are being utilized by students not to just talk to their friends or share the cutest cat video they can find, but to make use of these networks to develop and enhance the student lifestyle. Many students are using websites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to market themselves to potential employers by setting up business pages and uploading videos for all to see.
