Designers often speak of design as a process. Typically, design thinking leads to design making, which leads to artifacts. Yet the design process also leads to something more-to new knowledge. Thus, we might characterize designing as a form of learning
This section explains some design methods and how they are used by designers. We talk you through everything from brainstorming to physical prototyping.
"Here is a brief overview of the main ideas:
A model of Science Process (showing its coherent strategies for thinking-and-action), developed for my PhD project, was later generalized into a broader Design Process that describes the flexibly improvised creative-and-critical thinking we use for almost everything in life, when we solve problems by designing better products, activities, strategies, and theories."
The aim of this work is a cross-disciplinary integration of ideas specifically relevant to permaculture design and the physical structure of human settlements. Although this work is ambitious in scope, I feel this is an important element of the writing, to present an overview such that the reader is able to see the inter-relations of many ideas relevant to design. This is a synthesis of a kind which I believe has so far not been attempted.

PDC syndrome can involve one or more of the following symptoms:
a belief that no till or mulching or forest gardening or polycultures or mob-stocking or chicken tractors or perennial crops or compost teas or various other techniques must invariably be practiced in preference to any alternatives
a belief that whatever Bill Mollison or David Holmgren or a handful of other authors have written is above criticism
I am particularly struck by the idea of decomposing problems into sub-problems whilts paying attention to the intersection of these so that a sub-team can work on a bounded project and konw that what they solve will link well to problems on all sides ... I have looked at the Ushahidi software a number of times but don't have the capacity to run it or fully understand it -- a joint project anyone?
Have been drawing allot of inspiration from this one! Particularly love the idea of a cutting board that leads foods scraps into a methane digester. Definitely need a better kitchen composting system that is easy and effective for the modern kitchen design. Perhaps for people who are living in cities or tight areas and do not have land to use the compost effectively.
"Lean Startup" is an approach for launching businesses and products, that relies on validated learning, scientific experimentation, and iterative product releases to shorten product development cycles, measure progress, and gain valuable customer feedback. In this way, companies, especially startups, can design their products or services to meet the demands of their customer base without requiring large amounts of initial funding or expensive product launches.
Hi,
I'm taking a 10 week 'from idea to manifestation'-Eco-social entrepreneurship workshop to help me build our sustainability school. The basic model we use is of lean startup approach that is common now in silicon valley. for me it's seems like at home- remind me of the spiral way of planning and the permaculture principals.
SMART is a mnemonic, giving criteria to guide in the setting of objectives, for example in project management, employee performance management and personal development.
