Group 5: Repko, Jeffrey Treciak, Alessandra Tyska, Madeline macussbentley@gmail.com fkiiza@yahoo.com Jeff Repko's artwork "Sweet" is on his blog at http://www.personal.psu.edu/jor5090/blogs/art_322/blog/ and described below: I created this image after I read the dialogue, we had with our classmates from Uganda. I wanted to represent that America has many diverse cultures and backgrounds. When I thought about it, I kept thinking about the term "Great American Melting Pot". So I decided to show the "Great American Melting Pot" in the form of a lake, because I also wanted to show the diverse landscape. In America we do have many large cites, but around us is also great forests and wildlife. Not all of the United States is in the big city rush. Also the ability to travel freely was brought up. So I wanted to show that we are in between the cities and wildlife because we can travel freely through both divers and separate environments. Alessandra Treciak's artwork is is on her blog at http://aliecats.livejournal.com/ and described below: A lot of the views from the students from Uganda were that America is segregated. I chose to depict this misinterpretation by creating a white and black form. The white form is more open and larger, symbolizing their beliefs that America has more opportunities for white people. It is also open because we do have a lot of freedom in that we can travel from state to state without restraint, aren't contained at home because of family members we need to take care of, and have many opportunities to make a living. The black form is more contained symbolizing their communities in which families usually stay and live together. It also shows that even though they can travel freely, it is more difficult to go from place to place. The smaller form is also showing a misconception that blacks are not as valued and don't have as much to offer. I believe that segregation is almost nonexistent and that everybody is equal. i want to first thank and appreciate everyones effort in trying to make sure that this association/group keeps moving towards a positive direction. i used to think that usa painters and graphic designers were way too exceptional compared to the ones here, but now i know that people here can do well or even better in the same field. but i also know that we can all do better in art only when we are willing to help each other and work together. this makes me believe that we have good artists just like those in usa. but ofcourse, i have to admit that paintings and graphics from usa have a little class that we need to get to here. am very grateful to everyone. God bless u all.

Images for Art in USA - 3 views

I always thought that art in the USA was similar to that done in Uganda. The way art is presented on this website, it seems that there is a great difference between what is there and what is here. I can see that the artists are working more with popular images in their presentation of ideas. Yet here in Uganda, the artist is so much int0 inventing new ideas normally called 'abstract art'. How can art come together as an activity rather than an invention of ideas and presentations?

http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/exhibitions/seductive_subversion/ This large-scale exhibition examines the impact of women artists on the traditionally male-dominated field of Pop art. It reconsiders the narrow definition of the Pop art movement and reevaluates its critical reception. In recovering important female artists, the show expands the canon to reflect more accurately the women working internationally during this period. The exhibition features more than fifty artworks by Chryssa, Niki de Saint Phalle, Rosalyn Drexler, Marisol, Yayoi Kusama, Jann Haworth, Vija Celmins, Lee Lozano, Marjorie Strider, Idelle Weber, and Joyce Wieland, among others.

I used to think before that Us artists( painters) were more abstract than any other in this world. but depending on the information i got from this adress, they are more realistic, neat and love landscapes. but any way its quite different here in uganda because it involves more of absract art.

The site you bookmarked are paintings from the past century in Europe, primarily France and England and not art from USA artists. Here's a link to an online gallery of work by graduate students and alumni of the School of Visual Arts at Penn State: https://www.sova.psu.edu/online_gallery/online_gallery

Wordle - Word Clouds - 1 views

You could create the collaborative art with "word clouds" using the text from the dialogue and wordle.net, or ImageChef or Textorizer. This can be layered with the individual images shared by those in the group. Use what has been contributed by those in your group to create an image and post on VoiceThread.

PPT, PPTX, and PDF are all supported presentation file types. No single file can be larger than 25MB with a Free account. if you enter the exact url of a file you can import it directly, but the link must be absolutely correct. Note that most 'links' to videos online do not point directly to the video file and so won't work. But do have the accurate file location of a video it should work.

My perception about Graphic Design was different. The designers in uganda have alot to learn in terms of simplicity, legibilty and readability of the message, athough some of them have learnt about you there is still more to lear especially use of typography to convey messages.
