༄ Marlia project is the global music project of Cyprus-born Marlia Coeur; an ever-changing band of international musicians coming together with her guidance and compositions inspired by oral-transmitted songs from East Mediterranean tribes and beyond.

༄ The "Acropolis Secrets" concert happened in Bali in April 2022 before Marlia embarked on her European summer tour 2022, with traditional folk songs from Cyprus, Leros, Ipiros, Thraki, Pontos, Asia Minor, Bulgaria performed live by Marlia project feat. Sundaram String ༄
༄ It was a tribute to songs from Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria. Designed especially for Zest Ubud, with the most eclectic musicians, singers and drummers Bali offered at the time; special guests sharing a live-music stage together around the Sacred Fire.
༄ The audience experienced the potency of a polyphonic vocal ensemble, the power of the frame drums, innovative jazzy compositions with a string ensemble orchestra, the mystical sounds of Oud and Saz, ancient Acropolis Temple oracles transcribed into makams, powerful East Mediterranean odd rhythms which reinforce an ecstatic state and lead to remembering.
༄ "The sound that is God, of which all things are made." ༄
༄ The Greek philosopher Heraclitus said "everything is in motion". And for the Sufi way, Motion in the Universe means Life, and Rhythm is motion with pulse.
༄ These songs have been weaving the web of Universal Sound and the Music of Life in the most magical ways for centuries! You may not understand the language, but the transmission is powerful enough to reach an innate cellular memory you have of this frequency.

The idea of this cover song is to mix the traditional Bulgarian 5/8 song about Gyura who goes down to the river with the Medicine song by Rising Appalachia, which is actually a reggae-style song, "honoring the traditions of folk medicine; plant-based medicine as a tool for empowerment and healing.
It is a call to action to support the voices of the herbalists, healers, and teachers… the roots, plants, trees, and stones… the arts, the spirits, and the wild ones.
It is an honoring of all the many ways that we can be well, and the radical and traditional ways in which we can steward health within ourselves.
This song is a direct tribute to the people around the world who are holding and teaching these ways of herbal plant-based medicine, educating us all to know our gardens, our forests, our plants and our own bodies... to bring wellness back into our own hands and communities. It is not a dismissal of modern medicine, but a gratitude and honoring of its ancestry and foundations within folkloric traditions.
As we are moving into a new season, a new time, and a new chapter, we offer this song as a ritual anthem for this transition and time of great change. " ~ Rising Appalachia

At one of our legendary 2-day rehearsals (rehearse the evening of one day, have dinner together, hang out and sleep, wake up, have breakfast together, rehearse until afternoon then continue with the rest of our lives !! marathon) in Athens, Greece.
I asked Stefano and Vaggeli to try and tweak a traditional Cypriot folk song called The Jasmin [Το Γιασεμί], this is one of the first attempts that we made to recreate its soothing vibe yet resilient nature.
