Alcohol Abuse Effects - 5 Physical Effects Of Alcohol Abuse | Health,Health problems,healthy,alternative health - 0 views

  •
Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been Alcohol. I remember my Uncle drinking Beer at a party. And I remember him telling people that Beer is the best thing to drink. At that time, I didn't know what he meant by that. Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that many people feel that Alcohol is not really bad for men and women. From what I have heard, Alcohol is bad for people. For example, I heard that alcohol damages your body and brain. Now that's just what I've heard, it may or may not be true. One thing that I know for sure about Alcohol is that it's really harmful for Teenagers. Now I've studied my share of Medicine, and I believe that Alcohol is bad for everyone that drinks it every day in their life. It affects their brain and body. I also know that if your drink a lot of alcohol like beer, you have a great possibility of getting fat. And this is true because my Uncle got fat throughout time. And Why? Because he kept drinking beer. Personally, it's funny to me how people know the effects on alcohol and they keep on consuming it. Alcohol wasn't important to me in the past, because I'm not suppose to be learning about Alcohol when I'm only six years old. What I know about Alcohol is that it makes you act in a bad way. It damages your body. Alcohol makes you feel like in pain. Being that I didn't have a lot of background information on Alcohol, I chose to do some research on the topic. As I searched for blogs and news articles on Google, I came across this one article: http://howdoigetoffdrugs.com/2010/01/negative-effects-of-excessive-alcohol-consumption-on-the-body/. This article provided a lot of information and opinions on Alcohol .Some people felt that alcohol dependency is a chronic illness that can destroy a person's career and their family. It can also be fatal to their health if left untreated. And that substantial alcoholic substances drinking on a common basis causes chemical changes to a indi

Hot Chocolate: Dark Desires: Three different types of chocolate to drink - 0 views

  •
I'm learning more about Chocolate right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is what are different kinds of Chocolates? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it has this picture of Chocolates. The title is called Hot Chocolates: Dark Desires. This source was interesting because it explains you what different kinds of Chocolates there are. And what flavors it is. "Drinking Chocolate: High proportion of premium, bittersweet (60%-75% cacao) bar chocolate; hot water, milk, or cream, or some combination thereof; optional spices; served still, rather than steamed or frothed; can be made in bulk in a hot chocolate machine (which holds the melted chocolate in suspension at perfect temperature) or made-to-order; very thick and creamy, almost like melted bar chocolate." This text explains what this Chocolate has that people drink. The quote that I chose here is basically talking about what people do to make this chocolate. And the percent. It tells you what is made of and the process of doing this. I think this is smart because it's very surprising. It make me wonder if I do Chocolate how would it be. Am I going to make it right with the directions this web explains. I feel that Chocolate is something that is very good to eat and that probably many people like it.

Coffee and health - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • Coffee contains caffeine, which acts as a stimulant. For this reason, it is often consumed in the morning and when feeling tired. Students preparing for examinations with late-night cram sessions or code jams frequently use coffee to stay awake.

This shows that many people drink coffee in the morning to start their day with energy. Whihc is somethimg good. But resourses state that coffee affects your health.
  • A study comparing heavy coffee drinkers (3.5 cups a day) with non-drinkers found that the coffee drinkers were significantly less likely to contract Parkinson's Disease later in life. [7]. Likewise, a second study found an inverse relationship between the amount of coffee regularly drunk and the likelihood of developing Parkinson's Disease

Accrordind to this it state that coffee is a drink that many people drink but what as a result it gives you a disease. I strongly feel that children should not be drinking coffee becuase that is what manily affectx them with their brain.
  • Coffee consumption is also correlated to a reduced risk of oral, esophageal, and pharyngeal cancer.[17][18] In ovarian cancer, no benefit was found.[19] In the Nurses Health Study, a modest reduction in breast cancer was observed in postmenopausal women only, which was not confirmed in decaffeinated coffee.[20] According to one research, coffee protects from liver cancer.[21]

As it says here, that coffee can not only be bad for children. But also for adults because it gives cancer to your body. Cancer to women and men. That's why I think that coffee should not be drank every morning only sometimes.

  • Blood pressure Caffeine has previously been implicated in increasing the risk of high blood pressure; however, recent studies have not confirmed any association. In a 12-year study of 155,000 female nurses, large amounts of coffee did not induce a "risky rise in blood pressure".

  • Effects on pregnancy A February 2003 Danish study of 18,478 women linked heavy coffee consumption during pregnancy to significantly increased risk of stillbirths (but no significantly increased risk of infant death in the first year). "The results seem to indicate a threshold effect around four to seven cups per day," the study reported. Those who drank eight or more cups a day (64 U.S. fl oz or 1.89 L) were at 220% increased risk compared with nondrinkers. This study has not yet been repeated, but has caused some doctors to caution against excessive coffee consumption during pregnanc

This is so true due to the fact that many people think that coffee won'y affect women who are pregnant. But they are wrong cause it actually effects the baby from stillbirths.
  • The study concluded that consumption of coffee is associated with significant elevations in biochemical markers of inflammation. This is a detrimental effect of coffee on the cardiovascular system, which may explain why coffee has so far only been shown to help the heart at levels of four cups (24 fl oz or 600 mL) or fewer per day.[42]

  • Coffee intake may reduce one's risk of diabetes mellitus type 2 by up to half. While this was originally noticed in patients who consumed high amounts (7 cups a day), the relationship was later shown to be linear.[13][14]
  • Coffee can also reduce the incidence of cirrhosis of the liver[15] and has been linked to a reduced risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, a primary liver cancer that usually arises in patients with preexisting cirrhosis.
  • However, coffee can also cause excessively loose bowel movements.
  • Coffee contains the anticancer compound methylpyridinium. This compound is not present in significant amounts in other food materials.
  • Coffee consumption decreased risk of gout in men over age 40. In a large study of over 45,000 men over a 12-year period, the risk for developing gout in men over 40 was inversely proportional with the amount of coffee consumed.[32]
  • Over 1,000 chemicals have been reported in roasted coffee, and 19 are known rodent carcinogens;[33] however, most substances cited as rodent carcinogens occur naturally and should not be assumed to be carcinogenic in humans at exposure levels typically experienced in day-to-day life.
  • A 2007 study by the Baylor College of Medicine indicates that the diterpene molecules cafestol and kahweol, found only in coffee beans, putatively raise levels of low-density lipoprotein or LDL in humans.[36] This increase in LDL levels is an indicator that coffee raises cholesterol. The Baylor study serves to link cafestol and kahweol with higher levels of cholesterol in the body.
  • A Harvard study conducted over the course of 20 years of 128,000 people published in 2006 concluded that there was no evidence to support the claim that coffee consumption itself increases the risk of coronary heart disease.

Apple cider vinegar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • It is very popular, partly due to beneficial health and beauty properties.
    • Andrea. C

This is important because this is the main reason why people drink ACV. Despite it's vile smell and digusting taste, people drink it because it's really healthy.
  • Due to its acidity, apple cider vinegar may be very harsh, even burning to the throat. If taken straight (as opposed to use in cooking), it can be diluted (e.g. with fruit juice, honey, or sugar) before drinking.[2] Some dilute it with warm water and add honey.
    • Andrea. C

Bascially, you cannot drink this straight from the cup. You have to dilute it because the vinegar is really strong. If you don't dilute it with another liquid, the vinegar would burn your mouth and esophagus.

Although people usually drink it in liquid form, they can choose to take it in a pill form. But one should be cautious when taking ACV, because it can still burn the stomach.
  • Apple cider vinegar is also an old folk remedy said to clear ailments such as gout, poor complexion and acne, arthritis, candida, high cholesterol, warts, varicose veins, allergies, burns, and other ailments.
    • Andrea. C

ACV is a cure for many things. Not only is it a great supplement to take, it can also be a facewash to clear poor complexion.
  • Unpasteurized or organic apple cider vinegar may have a cob web, congealed appearance. This is natural, formed during the acetification process. This substance is often called "mother of vinegar" which is actually detritus from the bacterial colony.

Your doctor, not your columnist, should treat insomnia - 0 views

I'm learning more about insomnia and in particular what I'm wondering about is, Are there easy cures for insomnia? I was researching this question online and this blog post caught my attention because it was the only one I could find. "That said, some people drink some nice chamomile tea a little while before they go to bed or take valerian root or melatonin tablets. And there are non-narcotic over-the-counter sleeping aids. " The quote I chose here is basically saying that you should drink tea before they sleep or get some sleeping pills. I think this is informative somewhat because it makes me wonder if there are any other good cures. I also wonder if the sleeping pills or the tea will work. I might have to try that someday.

I've tried it. It is tangier than regular things we would drink. It's sour and your teeth tingles when you drink it without a straw. You have to dilute it before drinking it or else the taste of the vinegar would be reallly strong.
  • Traditionally served on the Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, it is sometimes heated and spiced, or mulled.

What Causes Overeating?: A Discussion of Food and Environmental Factors Affecting Intake - 0 views

  • Atmospheric factors include things such as lighting and noise level. Different research studies demonstrate that soft or dimmed lighting encourages longer eating duration and increased food intake, by promoting an atmosphere of comfort, encouraging dinners to stay longer and order an extra drink or dessert. Additionally, soft music tends to favor a slower eating pace, longer meal duration and a higher consumption of both food and drink.
  • Studies describe that meals eaten with others are larger than when eaten alone.
  • Being aware of food and environmental factors that influence one’s food intake is a first step to fight back and reduce their pull.

I'm currently learning more about eating disorders, a very popular topic about teens. I am listening to a podcast that talks about girls blogging on the internet and joining forums chatting with other people who are also trying to become thin. Just listening to the podcast makes me really wonder whats wrong with the girls and why they are torturing their bodies like that. The podcast read a girls blog that said, " i forgot to delete the history on my internet and my mom had saw what i had been on. Anaboot camp anorexic queen etc. Now shes watching me like a hawk. Im only on now because shes at the pub. It was my 100 calorie diet and i did fine until dinner. She shoved a white roll down my throat and a bunch of chicken . probably like 300 calories. Ugh, I can feel myself getting fatter. I need tips to get her off my back." It's crazy how girls take their physical image so seriously.I would understand, because I'm a girl also, but I would never starve myself like that ! I would skip dinner, but I would Never survive off drinking tea the whole day. That's just really harmful to your body. The podcasts talks about ways they can help these girls recover from anorexic by promoting pro-recovery sites. However, not all of the users who went on those blog, were females. There were also males. What i found most shocking was that there was even a 54 year old who blogged about their diet... The blogs are very interesting because the people talk about what they are going their and express their feelings for people on the internet to see. The most helpful way to prevent younger kids to going on these pro-anorexia sites, is to talk to them about it and teach them about the consequences...

Açaí Palm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

This is important because it supports the idea that there is no scientific evidence that suggests acai berry promotes weight loss.
  • Global demand for the fruit has expanded rapidly in recent years, and açaí is now cultivated for that purpose primarily.
    • Jeannie EWSIS

I'm wondering why so many people are falling for the whole acai berry businesses. It has been revealed a long time ago that there is nothing different about acai berry than any other types of berries.
  • Eight species are native to Central and South America, from Belize southward to Brazil and Peru, growing mainly in swamps and floodplains
    • Jeannie EWSIS

The fact that acai berry only grows in brazil is important because this is what makes the price go up so high. It can't be found anywhere in the United States.

In other words, though the efficacy of acai is questionable, currently there is no way to address this problem because the products haven't been evaluated by the FDA
  • A study in 12 healthy fasted human volunteers demonstrated that blood antioxidant capacity was increased within two hours after consumption of a commercial açaí juice beverage or applesauce.
    • Jeannie EWSIS

This supports that acai does have antioxidants. It is a good fruit, but nothing about it makes it different than other healthy berries.
  • When three commercially available juice mixes containing unspecified percentages of açaí juice were compared for in vitro antioxidant capacity against red wine, tea, six types of pure fruit juice, and pomegranate juice, the average antioxidant capacity was ranked lower than that of pomegranate juice, Concord grape juice, blueberry juice, and red wine
  • Marketers of these products, such as Monarch Health Sciences, parent company of MonaVie, make claims that açaí provides increased energy levels, improved sexual performance, improved digestion, detoxification, high fiber content, improved skin appearance, improved heart health, improved sleep, and reduction of cholesterol levels.

      On what scientific evidence?
  • Quackwatch noted that "açai juice has only middling levels of antioxidants—less than that of Concord grape, blueberry, and black cherry juices, but more than cranberry, orange, and apple juices."

This is important because they tell you what other fruits have almost the equal amount of antioxidants; means you don't have to spend tons of money on acai
