Mit Shah's story worth repeating in Leadership Series - 0 views

  •
Mit Shah today is CEO of Atlanta-based Noble Investment Group, a multi-million dollar company founded in his lifetime of experience growing up in the hotel business. It's a story he shares with many Indian American hoteliers, but he said it's a story that bears repeating, a story of the American dream. Shah retells his story here for Asian Hospitality's Leadership Series, the first episode for 2024. Along with his family history, he also discussed Nobel's investment practices, the economy in general and lessons learned from hosting interviews with industry leaders for the Bharat Shah Leadership Speaker Series, named after his father, at the Hunter Hotel Conference in Atlanta. "My parents were immigrants to the United States. In the 1960s they came here for a better life and education. As they were doing that, they had friends that found themselves in this industry and buying small properties throughout the country," Shah said, adding that his parents bought their first hotel, the Winkler Motor Inn in Winston Salem, North Carolina in 1979. "I was 10 years old at the time, my younger brother was six years old at the time and that was the family business, a very common story that we hear throughout our industry. It's an important story to continue to tell because it's deeply rooted in the American dream."

Ellis Hospitality: A Family Legacy of Perseverance, Innovation & Vision - 0 views

  •
The history of Jyoti Sarolia's family imbues her life. It's the story many immigrants know of coming to America and making a new life. Her regard for that achievement is reflected in the name of her Temecula, California-based company, Ellis Hospitality Group. Part of her family tale even made its way to the Smithsonian Museum. But today, Sarolia, as chief operating officer, is helping Ellis Hospitality move into the future using new technology. It's a future she's making for her daughter, and a story she hopes resonates with other women in every profession. Where it all began Sarolia's family established its foothold in the U.S. in 1952 when her paternal grandfather's brothers, Dhayabhai Patel and Shantibhai Patel, immigrated to this country. Like thousands of others, their first stop was the immigration inspection station on Ellis Island in New York. That inspired the name of Sarolia's new company.Family vacation packages "I felt it was only appropriate to name it after the first chapter of our story, which set the foundation for many generations to come," Sarolia said.

AAHOACON23 turns a page in L.A. - 0 views

  •
"BE ONE BODY" and roar like a pride of lions, Pujya Brahmviraharidas Swami, one of India's leading saints, told attendees of the 2023 AAHOA Conference and Trade Show in Los Angeles last week in his keynote speech. However, his call for unity came at a time when several large hotel companies boycotted AAHOACON23 over AAHOA's support for franchising reform. The association's new chairman, Bharat Patel, will have to lead the effort to follow Pujya Brahmviraharidas Swami's guidance and unite the membership in light of the split with Marriott Hotels International, Choice Hotels International and others. The leadership required will take courage, said Pujya Brahmviraharidas Swami, who spearheads the global outreach of BAPS in the U.S. to spread harmony and collaboration and who the Indian government and heads of state have called upon for guidance. "This is not just a story of celebrating the past or creating the future, but also of recalibrating the present. This is not a story of a motel and a mouse," Brahmaviharidas said. "This is a story of an empire of hospitality and a pride of lions. Roar in the right direction, in the right way, and the world will listen." Also during AAHOACON23, which set a record level of booth sales for the trade show, members elected new board members. The association also announced a new charity organization dedicated to helping victims of natural disasters, and software company Virdee took the top prize in the inaugural AAHOA Tech Pitch Competition. Change of command New Chairman Bharat Patel officially moved into the top spot on the board on the last day of the conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center. He replaced Nishant "Neal" Patel and will be followed next year by Miraj Patel, who is now vice chairman. "Like the theme from AAHOACON23, I look forward to honoring the past and creating a bolder future by working with AAHOA's nearly 20,000 members to ensure we reestablish strong partnerships with our state associations

HUNDREDS OF RED Roof franchisees gathered for the company's 2021 regional meeting in Dallas. It was part of a "Look & Listen" tour for Red Roof's newly appointed President George Limbert, and it provided a snapshot of the company's future. Limbert and other company executives addressed the crowd of hotel owners during the conference at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. For Limbert, who was appointed in August, it was another opportunity to meet the people he serves in order to chart Red Roof's course in the post pandemic hospitality marketplace. Look & Listen Limbert said he went to 11 properties during a visit to Atlanta for the Red Roof regional meeting there the week before the Dallas event. He planned to visit 12 more during his time in Texas. "I'm a people person. I love people. I love learning their stories. I love hearing their origins stories, I love hearing about franchisees," Limbert said. "We've got such resilient franchisees. We started outperforming 2019 numbers in April of 2021. So, our recovery wasn't now, it wasn't the summer, it was in April, so our brand is resilient, our brand is doing great."
