LE: Dallas lead U.S. hotel construction pipeline in the second quarter - 0 views

    DALLAS LEADS THE U.S. hotel construction pipeline for the fourth consecutive quarter, according to Lodging Econometrics. Among brands, Marriott International led the pipeline. Dallas had a record 173 projects with 20,707 rooms in the second quarter of this year, followed by Atlanta with 140 projects containing 18,131 rooms, Los Angeles with 124 projects with 20,365 rooms, New York, with 113 projects with 19,238 rooms and Phoenix with 108 projects containing 14,964 rooms, Marriott had 1,355 projects with 167,034 rooms, up 4 percent by projects year-over-year, tops the pipeline during the period. The Q2 2022 U.S. Construction Pipeline Trend Report said that major markets and popular tourist destinations in the U.S. reported highest occupancy rates since the pandemic began in early 2020 in the second quarter mainly due to robust leisure travel, group, and international travel. New York City with 78 projects with 13,063 rooms, Atlanta with 25 projects containing 3,905 rooms, Dallas with 25 projects with 3,725 rooms, Phoenix with 23 projects with 4,955 rooms and Los Angeles with 22 projects with 3,606 rooms are the top five markets with the most projects under construction during the end of June. They account for 22 percent of rooms under construction in the U.S.

Choice hits record $428 million Q3 revenue with strong pipeline - 0 views

    CHOICE HOTELS INTERNATIONAL reported a record $428 million in third-quarter revenue, a 1 percent increase from last year. Net income rose 15 percent to $105.7 million. As of Sept. 30, the global pipeline surpassed 110,000 rooms, an 11 percent increase from the previous year, with conversion rooms up 54 percent. Domestically, the room pipeline grew 10 percent year-over-year, with conversion rooms rising 68 percent, Choice said in a statement. "Choice Hotels generated another quarter of record financial performance, demonstrating the successful execution of our growth strategy and giving us the confidence to raise our full-year guidance," said Patrick Pacious, president and CEO. "We accelerated unit growth, expanded our global pipeline, grew our international reach, and significantly increased our rewards program. This momentum, combined with our strong business model, positions us to sustain growth while returning significant capital to shareholders."

'She Has a Deal' announces pitch competition finalists for 2023 - 0 views

    OFFICIALS OF THE "She Has a Deal" annual hotel investment pitch contest announced the five teams selected to advance to the final round of SHaDPitch 2023. The competition allows early career women to compete for the prize of $50,000 of equity in SHaD's Prosperity Fund I, following the conclusion of a virtual, preliminary round of pitching, SHaD said in a statement. SHaD 2023 will be held at the new Marriott Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, on April 27 to 28. According to the statement, the goal of SHaD is to increase the number of women owning and developing hotels. It provides participants with the ability to source, analyse, raise capital and close hotel real estate investment deals. During the preliminary judging round, eight teams comprising 15 participants pitched their hotel investment acquisition or development projects live on Zoom to a judging panel of hotel business executives, entrepreneurs, and investors. The judges evaluated and selected the following five teams: Sydney Young and Rachel Nicholson with SpartanStone, graduates of Michigan State University, pitching a La Quinta Inn & Suites in Lewisville, Texas. Chandler Williamson with Chanders Core Commitment, graduate of North Carolina Central University, pitching a Hilton Garden Inn in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina. Isabella Suffredini, Veronica Lewis and Alexandra Neoman with CROWN, graduates of Cornell University, pitching a TownePlace Suites in Houston, Texas. Hilton's net income, RevPAR and pipeline rise in Q2 - 0 views

    HILTON WORLDWIDE HOLDINGS reported net income of $422 million for the second quarter ending June 30, up from $413 million last year. The development pipeline grew 15 percent year-over-year to 3,870 hotels with 508,300 rooms, an 8 percent increase from the previous quarter. Systemwide RevPAR rose 3.5 percent year-over-year due to higher occupancy and ADR. "We are pleased to report a solid second quarter, with an increase in RevPAR of 3.5 percent, driven by growth in all segments, with particularly strong group performance," said Christopher Nassetta, Hilton's president and CEO. "On the development side, we ended the quarter with a record development pipeline, up 15 percent from the prior year and up 8 percent sequentially from the first quarter, including strategic partner hotels. Looking forward to the rest of the year, with the continued growth of our existing brands, as well as the addition of our new brands and strategic partner hotels, we expect net unit growth of 7 percent to 7.5 percent for the full year." Adjusted EBITDA for the three months ended June 30 was $917 million, up from $811 million in 2023, Hilton said. Management and franchise fee revenues increased by 10 percent year-over-year. In the US, second-quarter occupancy rose by 1.1 percentage points to 76.8 percent, ADR increased by 1.4 percent to $172.36, and RevPAR climbed 2.9 percent to $132.33.

U.S. Hotel Construction Soars to 16-Month High | CoStar Report Insights - 0 views

    THE NUMBER OF U.S. hotel rooms under construction in June reached its highest level in 16 months, according to CoStar. The construction volume increased year-over-year for four consecutive months, with upscale and upper midscale segments dominating pipeline activity. "The number of rooms in construction has grown year-over-year for four consecutive months," said Isaac Collazo, STR's vice president, analytics. "While upscale and upper midscale continue to dominate, accounting for about 50 percent of all rooms in the final phase of the pipeline, the pace of activity in these segments has slowed compared to last year. Midscale and economy have shown the most growth, up 42 percent and 34 percent, respectively, with newer brands and extended-stay accounting for most of the new construction across the midscale segment." Approximately 157,713 rooms were under construction in June, up 5.5 percent from the same month last year. Additionally, 266,619 rooms were in the final planning phase, a 9.8 percent increase from June 2023. The planning stage saw 333,827 rooms, a rise of 38.7 percent compared to the previous year.

LA QUINTA 'S 120TH DEL SOL PROPERTY OPENS IN NC - 0 views

    La Quinta by Wyndham Selma is now open in Selma, North Carolina. Owned by Jay Sai Corp., it is the 120th hotel to open using the La Quinta Del Sol prototype. The 80-room hotel is near Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Smithfield Community Park. Amenities include an outdoor pool. Another Del Sol hotel is expected to open in Galveston, Texas, this summer, according to Wyndham. There are 175 La Quinta hotels in the development pipeline and openings scheduled this year in several markets, such as Nashville, Tennessee; Santa Cruz, California and Denver.

STR:Hotel construction in December down 61K rooms from peak - 0 views

    HOTEL CONSTRUCTION DROPPED in December, falling 61,000 rooms below the peak reached in early 2020, according to STR. The number of projects under construction and in final planning is particularly down from the same time last year while many more are in the planning phase. There were 158,906 rooms in the construction phase in December, down 19.2 percent from the same month in 2020, according to STR. There were 185,231 rooms in final planning, down 20.6 percent from 2020, but there were 284,502 rooms, up 38.9 percent from the previous December. "This past year was the second in a row with far fewer rooms in construction and final planning, but the rise in planning activity could be an indicator that the pandemic's impact on the pipeline will be different than what we saw during the Great Recession," said Alison Hoyt, STR's senior director of consulting. "During the previous recession, construction declines persisted from 2008 through 2010, but with massive jump in planning today, the construction downturn may not last as long as more rooms advance to later phases of the pipeline."

Dallas Leads U.S. Hotel Construction 2023 - 0 views

    DALLAS TAKES THE lead in top five U.S. hotel construction markets in the third quarter of 2023, setting a record with 189 projects and 21,840 rooms, according to Lodging Econometrics. The top markets all saw growth in new openings as well. Atlanta follows closely with 140 projects and 17,775 Rooms, while Nashville comes next with 122 projects and 16,046 rooms. Phoenix recorded 119 projects, totaling 16,455 rooms, while the Inland Empire reported 117 projects comprising 11,784 rooms, according to the third quarter United States Construction Pipeline Trend Report by LE. New York City leads with the highest number of projects under construction, totaling 46, and 8,386 rooms at the close of the third quarter, LE said. Phoenix follows with 26 projects and 5,353 rooms, followed closely by Atlanta with 26 projects and 4,354 rooms. Dallas trails with 25 projects and 3,178 rooms, and the Inland Empire with 23 projects and 2,386 rooms.

Occupancy, ADR and RevPAR also showed significant improvement when compared to same period in 2019. Occupancy was 62.2 percent for the week ending Feb. 26, up from 59.1 percent the week before and down 4.7 percent for the same period in 2019. ADR was $143.83 for the week, increased from $140.11 the week before and up 13.1 percent from two years ago. RevPAR was $89.45 for the week, up from $82.87 the week before and increased 7.7 percent from the same period two years ago. Among STR's top 25 markets, Orlando recorded the largest occupancy increase, up 6.7 percent to 85.9 percent, over 2019.

Stonehill commercial real estate group completed $200 million in loans - 0 views

    STONEHILL CRE, THE commercial real estate group of investment firm Stonehill, has originated and purchased $200 million in first mortgage loans since being launched in the second quarter of 2022. The companies expect to complete an additional $100 million in loan originations and other transactions by year's end, based upon deals in its pipeline, and Stonehill CRE is targeting over $500 million in transaction for 2023. Stonehill CRE, formed in May with Daniel Siegel as its president, is designed to work in all real estate sectors to navigate ongoing market volatility and enable real estate owners to execute their business plans, according to the company. Its work has made Stonehill the 10th largest U.S. hotel lender in 2021, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. Atlanta-based Stonehill and Stonehill CRE are affiliates of Peachtree Group, led by Jatin Desai and Mitul Patel as managing principals. "Stonehill CRE's formation came at a fortuitous time as market conditions have created a dislocated lending environment for commercial real estate," said Siegel. "Traditional lenders have not only slowed commercial real estate lending but also tightened underwriting standards, which allows us to provide needed liquidity for maturing loans, new acquisitions and construction projects."

STR: U.S. Occupancy Up In First Week Of December - 0 views

    U.S. HOTEL OCCUPANCY increased in the first week of December, according to STR. But, all performance metrics were lower during the week when compared to same period in 2019. Occupancy was 54.8 percent for the week ending Dec. 4, up from 53 percent the week before and down from 8.8 percent for the same period in 2019. ADR for the week was $127.92, down from $128.41 the week before and decreased 0.5 percent when compared to two years ago. RevPAR increased to $70.08during the week from $68 for the week before but dropped 9.2 percent for the same period in 2019. According to the report, none of STR's top 25 markets recorded an occupancy increase over 2019, Only Los Angeles matched its 2019 comparable at 70 percent. Miami, lifted by Art Basel, reported the largest ADR increase when compared with 2019, up 32.9 percent to $373.71.
