Jennifer L. Haden has been a writing mentor at the University of California at San Diego for three years. Haden provides three astute tips for writing tutors to help create a comfortable tutoring session.

The Writing Space was developed by Elizabeth Busekrus. Missouri Baptist University Writing Coaches post prompts in the hopes of creating a conversation between students and the coaches. She has written an essay about this project in WLN Sept. Oct. 2014 titled "The Writing Space: A Forum for the Technological Age."

From Praxis: "Writing centers are feeling the effects of budget reductions across higher education nationwide. Like other student services that don't offer credits or produce revenue, writing centers are particularly vulnerable to budget cuts. Community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities across the country are asking writing centers to make hard choices- choices that will affect consultant hiring, pay, and benefits as well as hours of operation, services, technological resources, and administration."

"Writing Across Borders" is a video resulting from a 3-year research project, the purpose of which is "to help faculty writing assistants, and other professionals work more productively with international students in writing environments." The video can be used for tutor training and costs $14.95, plua $6 shipping, and can be ordered from the Oregon State University bookstore. 

Baruch College's Writing Center has curated collections of handouts on various topics (writing process, analysis and argument, structure and organization, grammar, etc.). A large collection of handouts drawn from many colleges and universities.

UNC Charlotte Writing Resource Center's blog, Entries about writing, grammar tips, answers to questions, etc. 

"College readiness has several dimensions, but of particular import is readiness to produce scholarly work that meets the expectations of college instructors. Differences from high school and college are well documented in the literature, and this study adds to that body of work by delineating the characteristics of first-year college assignments through a qualitative analysis of college faculty assignment instructions. Three themes emerge from the analysis: information literacy, especially initiating inquiry; academic writing, especially citing evidence in support of a thesis; learner dispositions, especially curiosity, open-mindedness, self-reliance, and perseverance. Findings have implications for high school library programs and high school teachers as well as librarians working with first-year college students."

This video presents a workshop in which Dr. Monique Akassi, Director of Morgan State University's Writing Center, teaches students to code switch and code mix from Ebonics to English. Dr. Akassi stresses how code switching and mixing can help students write in English and incorporate both languages in their writing.
