Today's classrooms are more diverse than ever before. As a result, teachers find themselves searching for ways to meet the needs of each student. Add to it the pressures of academic achievement goals mandated by NCLB and many may feel ill-equipped to meet the challenges of diversity in the classroom.
Planning perfect lessons with exciting activities looks great on paper, but will it help your students reach their potential? Probably not. If there is anything I learned during my time as a public school teacher is this: The height of student achievement is directly correlated with the strength of the classroom community. By building community in the classroom, you build an environment where students feel safe to learn, grow and be themselves.

" For the past three years, Digital Wish has been studying the process of implementing one-computer-per-child programs in 28 schools. Digital Wish is an educational non-profit on a mission to bring technology to American classrooms in order to prepare students to thrive in the global economy. The team just completed a $1.125M Federal ARRA stimulus grant, delivering computers, weekly educator trainings, a complete IT curriculum, and support to the 28 schools. Their trainers modeled the entire process of technology adoption and progressively reduced the initiative planning time from 18 months to just 6 weeks, saving schools tremendous amounts of time and money. Both teachers and students are reporting a wide range of gains including increased engagement in learning, technological proficiency, and dramatic improvements in the understanding of internet safety issues. The 2011-2012 data report is attached.

Flipped learning offers the same potential for professional learning as it does for our students. It offers unique visibility on the learning process and learner progress, allowing just in time analysis of learners' needs, along with contextually appropriate analysis of what moves learning forward most effectively, allowing adaptation and refinement of planning.
Oftentimes these "professional growth plans" are scribbled out in 15 minute meetings with your principal, then "revisited" at the end of the year as a kind of autopsy. What would happen if we flipped this model on its head? What if instead we created a teacher-centered, always-on, and social approach to teacher improvement? One that connected them with dynamic resources and human communities that modeled new thinking and possibility, and that crucially built on their strengths?
Story Cove folktales come from a variety of cultures and places. They share timeless values and simple, universal lessons.
The Story Cove format enables children, families and teachers to explore these stories in a variety of ways. As a result, each child is able to develop a more personal understanding of a story while learning about the world.
Children will enjoy watching the Movies and exploring the activities and games that are linked to that story.
Activities are designed for one-on-one, personal play with interactive puzzles, music fun and hidden pictures.
Lesson Plans extend the story elements to explore the original story with projects and activities that require interaction with adults or other members of the family away from the PC.
"Summer is a time when many of us are thinking about and planning professional development workshops for our schools and for other schools. I've always found that a short 3-5 minute video can be a good introduction to a PD sessions and or make for a nice thought-provoking break during a PD session. Here are seven videos that I think serve those purposes well."

Over ten years ago, while teaching middle school students and viewing the naïve behaviors that they exhibited in chat rooms on the internet, Chuck developed lesson plans to teach his students safe behaviors. As students spoke at home about what they were learning in school, parents began contacting Chuck to have him speak at PTO meetings and to local organizations. Since that time, both use of the internet and the dangers that students face while using the internet have grown. Along with that growth, requests for Chuck to speak on the topic of Internet Safety have increased to include presentations to large groups of students in grades 6 through 12, school staff members and parents. Presentations have been made in schools in several states across the US and at both State and National conventions.
