SweetSearch is a Search Engine for Students. Most search engines search billions of Web sites and return tens of millions of results; some are from reliable Web sites, some are not. SweetSearch searches only 35,000 Web sites that have been evaluated and approved by a staff of Internet research experts at Dulcinea Media, and its librarian and teacher consultants. SweetSearch excludes results from the unreliable sites that rank high in other search engines, and waste your time. It lets students choose the most relevant result from a list of credible results, rather than having them waste time on unreliable sites.

Northpole.com is a commercial banner-free, child-safe Web site designed to provide a family-oriented Christmas site for children and families to share together. Parents, grandparents, and teachers around the world have told us about the quality time they spend sharing the site with children. We hope you, too, enjoy the site as much as we enjoyed creating it for you.

Ok, so you've probably seen some of these, but I needed a snazzy title. I recently compiled two lists of sites from Richard Byrne's Blog - the site is an amazing resource, and I'm pretty certain that Richard doesn't sleep. These aren't in order of greatness - they all have their own specific applications for education. A few of these appear on my Sites for Kids (and Teachers) page. Enjoy!

This website is designed for educators who wish to extend the concepts of the math curriculum beyond the pages of the text. Google Earth is the dynamic tool that will be used to accomplish this. Google Earth provides startling clear satellite views of the globe in an interactive 3D environment. Beyond the visual, users can add placemarks, annotations, photos, and models, as well as measure distances and draw paths. Within this site you will find lesson ideas, examples, and downloads for mathematics that embrace active learning, constructivism, and project-based learning while remaining true to the standards. The initial focus will be for grades 5 and up, but teachers of younger students may be able to find some uses or inspiration from the site. Higher level thinking skills, such as analysis, synthesis, and creativity are encouraged as well as technology skills and social learning. The scope of this site is mathematics, but many lessons lend themselves to interdisciplinary activities also.

The internet is full of sites that offer free access to games of all kinds, and there is no shortage of educational games that can be downloaded, or simply played right on your web browser. Welcome to 60 in 60! This site is a presentation created by Brandon Lutz and will be presented at the Pennsylvania Keystone Summit the end of July 2009. Brandon will be presenting 60 web 2.0 tools in 60 minutes, with a lot of extra sites. Brandon has a love for free web 2.0 sites that can be used with students to enhance teacher classrooms.
