Google Apps Education Training Center is a new online learning environment designed for educators and students who want to effectively use Google Apps in an educational context. The site offers six modules, including Google Apps Education Edition, apps Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sites, and other tools. The training will cover customizing apps for individual schools; organizing e-mail effectively; creating shared calendars; collaborating with others online; using documents, presentations, and spreadsheets; delivering and collecting surveys, quizzes, and feedback; developing media-rich websites; and setting up internal video portals for schools.

Free site "FoolProof.com" Real Consumer Education

I found this article very interesting. I know when I was in high school there was a lot of goofing around and behavior problems on the bus to and from school. I think that having internet access on the bus would really decrease these problems. Some students spend a lot of wasted time on the bus to and from school and this is a way to make this time productive. Students would be able to work on homework and do research. I also thought that having this option for sports teams to use was great. Imagine being a coach and giving your players access to the internet in between games, or on the long bus trips to the tournament.

"The Lawrence Hall of Science is a great educational website from University of California, Berkeley. It provides a wide variety of resources to engage kids and students in learning science.  It also offers 'a comprehensive set of programs to help increase the quality and quantity of great science learning that kids get both in and out of school.' As a teacher, you can use The Lawrence Hall of Science to look for activities and experiments to enrich your lesson plans. Use the tabs on the top of the website to easily browse through the materials it has."

NBC Learn has launched this website called Finishing the Dream. It chronicles the h istory of the civil rights movement. It includes more then 100 stories from NBC News archives. Materials include documentaries on significan events over the course of 60 years, including the Montgomery bus boycott; the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.; the integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas; the Freedom Riders; and more. The content provides the opportunity for community leaders, teachers, and students to discuss the impact of the civil rights movement and to consider related modern issues that affect people today.

Memorize.com is a new learning website that allows users to create their own study guides and then share them on the web. The free site assembles user-generated content in three formats -- flash cards, multiple choice, and visual learning diagrams. The topics range from traditional school subjects, such as history, languages, and geography, to less academic categories, such as food, billiards, and television. Users can follow other users and their pages and edit other users' pages to craete their own unique page.

Article about bringing the works of Shakespeare alive with performances on YouTube and rap. Inner city students can now understand the literary works of the most well known and read English author of all time. I remember when I was in high school most of us hated reading Shakespeare's plays, but if we were allowed to "remake" them with the plot untouched that would have been much better. Just shows and alternative assessment that gives students ownership over their learning.

This site was so cool. I created my own comic story. I was able to play brain buster games I read stories and had stories read to me, and watched videos about how to create a comic.. This site was created by Jim Davis, creator of the comic strip Garfield, in conjunction with Ball State University and PAWS, Inc. It give kids the opportunity to explore, create and connect safely with kids around the world. Jim Davis created this site because he felt there was a need to provide a high-quality, free, and engaging web site that could motivate children to achieve their full potential. The approach is kid-centric and tries to close the achievement gap between what kids seek to do on the Internet and standards-based educational activities. The mission of Professor Garfield.org is encourage children to explore academically sound literacy activities and provide them with tools to express themselves through creative writing prorams. This site offers a growing bank of imaginative, highly visual teaching-aids developed for use with interactive whiteboards in 11-18 Schools. The resources are designed to be used as rich sources of visually stimulating material, making use of both animations and drag and drop interactivity. The appropriate Key Stage is indicated for each resource. It is hoped that the resources will help students to make sense of some of the more challenging concepts they encounter.

Possibly a good start for schools everywhere. The more states doing this will make transfer students fit in educationally in all schools and we won't have to play catch up with so many students. Important for our district as we have constant turnover of students
