Another solution might be to increase the number of pregnancies that each donor is permitted to produce. The legal limit is 10, set to minimize the chances of what is called inadvertent consanguinity — half siblings, unaware they had the same donor father, together having children, who would be at risk for genetic diseases caused by inbreeding.

It is interesting that the UK has limitations set on the number of women that can used donated sperm. I knew that people were concerned with the issue of half siblings reproducing but I never knew that there were governments that took action to prevent it. It later states that Netherlands allows 25 recepients per donor although they have a much smaller population. And then there is us, the United States, where there is no limit set and the clincs can decide for themselves. If such shortages took place in the United States, Im sure many clincs would just start using the same donor due to the capitalistic nature of our sturcture.
