Welcome to IVF and Genetics Center Website - 1 views

I found that the website for the Advanced Fertility and Genetics Center in Oman, seemed to be one of the most comprehensible websites, a very well done website that seems professional and certified. It also explains what exactly IVF is, it seems a very honest website but it does not seem to elaborate on intricate details of IVF which perhaps some patients might want to read up on before making an appointment at the clinic. You get the feeling that the doctors are very experienced but not really from the information provided more from the pictures used which seems to be a clever technique that a lot of these IVF websites use to entice the patients. Not only are there very scientific looking pictures but there are also pictures of parents with babies. Even though it does not seem to provide too much information of the procedures they do include an acute list of the doctor's present appointments and evaluations. Overall it does not go into complex detail but it does appear to brief the viewer well enough to want to find out more and therefore, to book an appointment.

As I opened the Advanced Fertility and Genetics Center website, I was thoroughly impressed by the appeal that the site made to the general population. One of the few websites I have come across with an intro, the intro made me feel very welcome and gave me an adequate synopsis of what I was to expect. The initial pictures of the different stages of reproductive growth was appealing to me as it showed the radiance of the procedure and what can come of this reproductive technology. Moreover, the combination of pictures of families and medical professionals was attractive in showing the blend of the result and process of the procedure. The initial didactic pictured on the site engages the viewer, giving the prospective patients assurance and basic knowledge of the procedure. The structure presented by the website was easy to navigate and very informative. I liked how the website balanced the glorified result and the medical procedures of IVF. Of all the websites I have viewed, I have found very few things I did not like about this one. I think it was created in a professional manner, with a complete navigation of medical practices, success rates, etc. that is accessible and easily understood by the viewer.

  • The studies focused on two species that look nearly alike: prairie voles and montane voles.

What do you think of this study in terms of the connection between genetics and behavior? Is it credible?

I would like to know more about how they conducted the research. I do believe there is a strong connection between genetics and behavior, so there could definitely be some truth to this. The article says that this could help some men who felt anxious in their relationship because they could say "oh, that's my DNA," but it could work conversely as well...a man could use it as an excuse to be unfaithful: "Oh, I can't help it, so why try to form a monogamous relationship?" As for the vasopressin receptors, did they find that the men with the allele had more receptors? Or just that they were in different spots in the brain?

Shortage of Sperm Donors in Britain Prompts Calls for Change - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • Another solution might be to increase the number of pregnancies that each donor is permitted to produce. The legal limit is 10, set to minimize the chances of what is called inadvertent consanguinity — half siblings, unaware they had the same donor father, together having children, who would be at risk for genetic diseases caused by inbreeding.

It is interesting that the UK has limitations set on the number of women that can used donated sperm. I knew that people were concerned with the issue of half siblings reproducing but I never knew that there were governments that took action to prevent it. It later states that Netherlands allows 25 recepients per donor although they have a much smaller population. And then there is us, the United States, where there is no limit set and the clincs can decide for themselves. If such shortages took place in the United States, Im sure many clincs would just start using the same donor due to the capitalistic nature of our sturcture.
