"Chip Kidd doesn't judge books by their cover, he creates covers that embody the book -- and he does it with a wicked sense of humor. In one of the funniest talks from TED2012, he shows the art and deep thought of his cover designs. (From The Design Studio session at TED2012, guest-curated by Chee Pearlman and David Rockwell.)

"When you recognize a word's prefix, you can make a better guess at the meaning of a new word. Or as our new prefix video says, "Prefixes…It's like a remix, it changes things." By the end of this prefix lesson plan, students will be able to recognize the meanings of common prefixes, use the prefixes to determine meanings of words, and then play a prefixes game where they invent new words using prefixes.

"Companies are using free smartphone apps as 'fronts' to allow them to spy on users' text messages, intercept calls and even track their location, it was claimed yesterday.
By accepting little-read terms and conditions when downloading apps, consumers give developers the right to harvest vast swathes of private information.
Facebook insists that people using its Android smartphone app agree to give them permission to read their text messages, although the internet giant said it had not yet taken advantage of this right."
"The digital collections of the Library of Congress contain a wide variety of material related to World War I, including photographs, documents, newspapers, films, sheet music, and sound recordings. This guide compiles links to World War I resources throughout the Library of Congress Web site. In addition, this guide provides links to external Web sites focusing on World War I and a bibliography containing selections for both general and younger readers."
