Technology Integration in Education - Facilitating the Use of Technology in the Classroom - 2 views

  •
http://www.technologyintegrationineducation.com . Technology Integration in Education is a site that does away with the hours of searching the net for the right resources for you. TIE is the Facebook or Linkedin of Education. It is the site to go to network with educators and professionals around the world in order to share best practices when it comes to teaching with technology. TIE is the site that allows members to form groups around ideas, resources and skills. It provides a place where best educational videos can be shared. It provides tutorials in the form or Podcasts or live webinars that give members the opportunity to share some of the multiple resources they could use in order to achieve different objectives. There is a constant streaming of news articles from most of the major educational technology magazines available in one location. In essence, everything an educator could need to integrate technology in their daily teaching can be found in this one location. Well know companies as well as start-up companies now have a single location where educators can go in order to see everything. This centralized location dramatically cuts down on the research and planning time and provides a way for companies to attract prospective clients to their company in one centralized location. Educators are able to blog and discuss their teaching as well as the products used in an open and friendly atmosphere. The opportunities are endless.Join us at http://www.technologyintegrationineducation.com

ChurchProduction.com: First Impression: Sony SRG-300SE PTZ Camera - 2 views

  •
This new camera was released this summer. An all in one camera that does streaming (from what I can tell it would likely work with FinalWeb Streaming) and can be controlled all with the web interface. It also has the more tranditional pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) interface as well, if you already ahve that. Wire audio from a microphone or your sound system to it, connect it to your broadband and you would be up and going. Or, use the SDI video connection to go something something like Wirecast on your computer for more control. Refer to my presentation from WelsTechConf on video streaming, this new camera is one I am now reviewing to replace our first camera we installed this last year. We may shift then the camera that is our "primary front and center" off to the side more for the "B" roll view.

Using technology in the classroom requires experience and guidance, report finds - The ... - 1 views

  •
Thanks Ryan Rosenthal for sharing this article - Ryan says ... Interesting article talking about a small study that was done in Canada. I liked how they said that most tech instruction in the schools they looked at was focused on how to use the tech not on higher order thinking. It also mentions that the teachers on the forefront of tech teaching are not the new teachers but the ones with experience under their belt. Those teachers know how to handle the classroom and are therefore more comfortable taking the challenge of managing the students as they use tech.

Zim - a desktop wiki - 2 views

A desktop wiki like tool for keeping track of notes, phone numbers, and even has built in tools to use as your GTD system. It is cross platform running on Linux and Windows. With Dropbox you can keep your notes synced between all of your computers. You can even attach documents, files, and insert pictures too to keep all of your information in one place. Each note page is saved in plain text making it possible to edit the files with a normal text editor if you do not have Zim Wiki installed on a computer but have access to the files.

Church Volunteer Recruitment: 13 Tips to Grow Your Volunteer Program - Proclaim Blog - 2 views

  •
A good post on getting volunteers involved. Some good points of like telling people why the tasks are important, and to give them a chance to try before they commit. We do this with our AV Team, asking people to just come by on a Sunday to the back of church to watch what happens and to ask questions after.

Soundrown Plays Coffee Shop Noise, White Noise, Rain, and More to Help You Focus - 0 views

Has anyone ever used something like this in his classroom?  I have students that greatly enjoy having some music playing in the background (I limit it to classical piano, mostly).  Anyone know of a study that demonstrates if this helps students learn?
  •
I've used Simply Noise in my classroom of 5th graders and I have had mixed results. Some kids really like it and some hate it. I tend to prefer the brown noise as opposed to white or pink noise. I think I might make less of a deal of it with my next class next year and just use it for a little longer period of time to get a better read on its effectiveness. I took my students to on a field trip to Environmental Systems Inc in Brookfield, WI and they use brown noise generators throughout their office/cubicle area to mask ambient noise. I found it very soothing. They used to have it timed to go off at 4pm and they found that their employees subconsciously sensed it was time to leave for the day. Not wanting to encourage them to leave early, they decided to gradually bring the volume of the noise down over the course of 30 minutes and that took care of their issue. Not necessarily applicable to what you were asking about, but kind of interesting.

Everything.me - Introducing the Dynamic Phone TM - 0 views

  •
For my Android device friends - Sounds pretty cool! From a Netted e-mail: Everything.me is a new launcher that can change which apps appear on your phone based on your current needs. The kicker? You don't even have to install the apps; you can use them right from the cloud.   So let's say you love the new Vampire Weekend album. Plug it into the search bar and Everything.me will pull up SoundCloud so you can listen, MetroLyrics so you can sing along, and Ticketmaster so you can see them live - regardless of whether or not you've installed those apps.   And Everything.me tailors each app to your search result. Each app opens to the relevant Vampire Weekend page. Heck, even the background will be Vampire Weekend. Your phone effectively reinvents itself based on what you're doing right now.

Why congregation size matters when it comes to websites | Deseret News National - 0 views

  •
He makes an excellent point, to consider who our audience is when we reach out. ""I have to explain (to church leaders) that there aren't thousands and thousands of Episcopalians out there looking" for a place to worship, Dell said. Instead, congregations must focus on "outsiders," people who weren't raised in a faith community or who are hoping to explore a new denomination, and who are likely to turn to the Internet in their search."

How to Disable Sign Into Chrome? - 1 views

  •
Ran into an issue with students signing in to Chrome on shared computers. This causes major issues when new students log in to the same machine on a shared account. I will be testing this workaround to remove the screen and hopefully avoid the issue in the future!

Could You Lose All Your Social Media Followers? - Jenn's TrendsJenn's Trends - 0 views

  •
Shared by Cindy Krueger I've been following Jenn's Trends on Facebook for social media hints and tips. I'm sharing her recent blog post about protecting and recovering hacked social media accounts. One item of note is the LogDog tool to help protect your accounts. This topic is of special concern because I know a couple people with high profile accounts that have been hacked recently. Fortunately each was able to work with the social media company to get the account restored. Maybe less of a concern for churches and schools that have in person contact with followers but still something people will want to avoid if possible.

The Web Revolution: This is Just the Beginning -- THE Journal - 4 views

Recap of this week's keynote at the FETC Conference in Orlando by Jaime Casap, Global Education Evangelist at Google. He told attendees about the ways technology has -- and will continue to -- change K-12 education. Among other things, Casap said technology is causing students to learn in new ways and is providing them with almost constant access to information. The changing landscape, Casap said, makes it even more important for teachers to have access to professional development and for there to be a focus on digital leadership in schools.

Phraseology (iPad only) and Terminology (iPhone, iPad) are two low cost, high quality integrated writing tools useful for any writing task on the go from tweets to instructions, multipage reports, sermons, etc. Terminology (iPhone & iPad), in addition to its built in dictionary and thesaurus, allows you to chose which online word tools to check and integrate into your lookups/research. Phraseology (iPad only) is a friendly editing environment which is especially useful breaking down your word/phrase usage and frequency. Pay attention to the Flesch Kincaid Reading and Grade level scores along with other readability statistics, including root word frequency, and you can improve the comprehension of your written or oral presentation. Most pastors and teachers who either compose or copy-paste-revise content taking into account Phraseology's feedback should be able to greatly improve their audience's comprehension. Interested in tired old phrase remediation or reductions in redundancies and passive platitudes? Anyone?
