OpenOffice.org Education Project's goals are to establish a bridge between OpenOffice.org and the world of education as well as recruit and train new developers. As part of its activities in close relationship with teachers, we identified a need: a suite dedicated to education and particularly in the first degree. Thus was born the project OOo4kids (pronounced "OpenOffice for kids"). OOo4Kids is a lighter version of OpenOffice. Org: * Dedicated to 7-12 years * With specific adaptations to the world of education * Who works everywhere (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows) * International / Multilingual

For as long as I can remember I've been using avatars to teach Internet safety. It's a fun and engaging way to teach students the importance of protecting their identities when they are online and a great prelude to using a variety of web 2.0 tools to support the curriculum.

I have been creating a lot of student projects that use ThingLink as a tool for learning. I have also received a handful of of questions from teachers who are highly interested in facilitating a similiar project of their own, but need help with the management involved. "With so much active student engagement, how do you manage a project like this?"

Technology is a tool that can be used to help teachers facilitate learning experiences that address the diverse learning needs of all students and help them develop 21st Century Skills, an idea supported by the Common Core. 

There are a couple dozen ways to 'use' technology in education. There are also a couple dozen ways to integrate technology in education.

Google Docs is a user friendly suite of online collaborative tools that come with tremendous potential for use in the classroom. Last year all of the students in our school  received Google Docs accounts and I was kept quite busy getting students and teachers up and running with the new tools, then discovering innovative ways to use them as effective tools for learning. Here are some of the favorites.

There is an assumption that persists in the educational community that more mature teachers are much more difficult and reluctant to be trained on the effective use of educational technology. To some degree, I think this assumption has been built on by the digital native vs digital immigrant myth. But as someone who has trained teachers of all ages all over the world I would say that, from my own experience, this hasn't been the case.
