  • The Way Things Could Be for Teachers Google is trying to get users to wrap their heads around this idea of a wave, which is basically the digital equivalent of a blank white board. In the wave, you can write correspondence, view documents or pictures, incorporate data from other web sources do all kinds of other things that would be available to a group of people sitting around a conference table. Let’s take that idea of a blank space or a wave in which a teacher can do productive work with others. This potential for communication and collaboration would be a game changer for teacher. So many branches, you probably don’t even know where to start. It’s simple, every idea and step passes through the wave. Everyone has a voice that can be heard and responded to equally.

In the days when you can buy germanium diodes, capacitors and variable-headset from war surplus stores for pennies, your correspondent, as many of his contemporaries students build a solid-state version of his grandparents' crystal-set draw short wave radio broadcasts from around the world. Although such groups are only used to get, and therefore no need for a carefully crafted decline as a transmitter antenna, the biggest problem with them has always been build a highly effective dipole aerial. This usually consists of a length of 18-gauge insulated copper-clad steel wire tied loosely in the middle of a long pair of trees, although quite match your best antenna design based on a few miles sometimes barbed-wire around a pasture neighbor.

Why I Migrated Over to Twine (And Other Social Services Bit the Dust) | Think Artificial - 0 views

  • I never remember my bookmarks on del.icio.us and always have to browse long lists.
  • semantic web concept: Encapsulating data in a new layer of machine processable information to help us search, find and organize the overwhelming and ever-growing sea of pictures, videos, text and whatever else we’re creating.
  •
What Twine enables: 1. So much info is extracted that it becomes easy to find the items later; video, images, audio ... all kinds of files become available inside Twine. 2. Encapsules data in a new layer of machine processable information to help us search, find and organize it. 3. TALL blog » Blog Archive » The Transition from the Co-Digital to the Post-Dig... - 5 views

I like all of the definitions in this blog post. They sound connected to past research, yet new. I know I was feeling odd at the "Digital Is..." Conference, because I don't want to let the technology disappear into uses. It's better, I think to look for what we can get out of particular technologies. That's what we are doing now with Google's Wave. "Alongside these discussions Frances Bell suggested the term Co-Digital as a better term to describe the process of "…seizing the opportunities presented by the newness of technologies to spot changes and then shape the development of the technology."" As this paragraph suggests, we still need to look at "digital technologies" to see how we can exploit them for what we need.
