Main entrance page of the the Multimedia Metadata Community Portal The MPEG-7 & MPEG-21 community aims at bringing together experts from research and industry in the area of multimedia meta data interoperability for collaborative working environments. By establishing a community of professionals it is intended to bridge the gap between an academic research and an industrial scale development of innovative products for natural collaboration. To accomplish this goal the portal provides information about MPEG-7 & MPEG-21 related events, participating research groups, as well as industry partners to share expertise on multimedia meta data interoperability.

Multimedia Web Ontology Language (MOWL) has been designed to facilitate semantic interactions with multimedia contents. It supports perceptual modeling of concepts using expected media properties. While the reasoning in traditional ontology languages, e.g. Web Ontology Language (OWL), is based on Description Logics, MOWL supports a probabilistic reasoning framework based on Bayesian Network.

Wikidata aims to create a free knowledge base about the world that can be read and edited by humans and machines alike. It will provide data in all the languages of the Wikimedia projects, and allow for the central access to data in a similar vein as Wikimedia Commons does for multimedia files. KnowWE implements a (refined) concept of semantic wikis: Besides basic ontological knowledge - such as the definition of classes, taxonomic and user-defined properties - KnowWE is able to represent problem-solving knowledge that is applied on selected classes of the ontology. Every wiki page embeds not only semantically annotated text and multimedia but also explicit problem-solving knowledge. The embedded knowledge can be used to actually derive the concept related to the particular wiki article.
