The benchmark score as obtained by Computerworld Support, makes Chrome 6 the fastest version of the browser with JavaScript capabilities.

Google has announced the release of Chrome 8 developer build according to a blog post on its Chrome blog Tuesday, stating categorically on the new features expected on the next version of the open-source browser.

I started putting together this list, and got a bit carried away. It ended up turning into a recommended list of free (mostly open-source) tools to do almost all of the essential tasks most people require of their computer. Almost all of the programs mentioned below are free open source software, though some are free versions of larger commercial products. Also note that this article is primarily aimed at Windows PC users, but almost all of these tools are also available on OSX and Linux.

Zotero, the popular open-source research and bibliography tool, just announced the latest version of its Firefox addon, which allows users to synchronize their databases between different PCs.

Just need one or two quick citations? No need to log in or subscribe -- simply generate them in NoodleBib Express and copy and paste what you need into your document. Note: citations are not saved and cannot be exported to a word processor using this version of the tool.

The world's most popular Twitter app has a new name!  UberTwitter is now UberSocial, reflecting its broadening reach as a key social communications tool.  In addition to its industry-leading functionality for sending and reading tweets, you can now post rich media to Facebook.  We are also opening beta for a new desktop version of UberSocial that takes full advantage of the larger screen environment to deliver a vastly richer real-time experience.

My idea is to create a system called The Startup Guild that is somewhat like a distributed and virtual version of YCombinator. The Startup Guild would use game mechanics to help track and match up participants into self supporting mastermind groups. As an analogy, if YCombinator were client-server, the Startup Guild would be a torrent tracker. The main premise of the guild would be to help entrepreneurs build their first profitable business via the unfunded route of bootstrapping, however there would be nothing about the guild to exclude participants from seeking funding or placement at an incubator.

The much expected search innovation, Instant Pages, announced by Google mid June is now live on the latest stable version of Chrome 13, according to the Chrome Blog.
